Lucan Biddulph Inspector John Stephens presented the Middlesex OPP January to June 2006 report, focusing on Lucan Biddulph statistics for that time period. "It's been a very busy year," says Stephens," speaking mainly of the Bandidos project Octagon and Caledonia which occupied several province -wide detachments throughout the past few months. • The new South Huron council started its work Monday night with the swearing in of Mayor Ken Oke, Deputy Mayor George Robertson and councillors Jim Dietrich, David Frayne, Cathy Seip and Tom Tomes. DECEMBER 13 • "He was my first choice and my only choice. As it turned out...(he) became the only choice of a majority of the delegates choice in the end," says Huron -Perth MP Paul Steckle about new Federal Liberal leader Stephane Dion, who was elected as leader at the party's conven- tion in Montreal Dec. 3. Steckle endorsed Dion for party leader in August and says what drew him to Dion were a number of traits. • A Brucefield crop consultant and speakers from both NK and Pride Seeds highlighted the annual Borland Farm Service meeting last Friday afternoon at the Masonic Lodge in Exeter. Mervyn Erb, a crop consultant with Agri -Solve Inc. touched on several subjects, speaking to the full room of farmers about mainly wheat and soybeans. Erb says farmers' expectations and the prognosis of future wheat crops should be "Less, a whole lot less," than previous expectations. DECEMBER 20 • Council discussed the personnel of its various com- mittees Monday night, with the goal of more input from the public and improved promotion of the municipality. Mayor Ken Oke said he wanted to see a volunteer committee formed to deal with `Special Events.' The committee would come up with ideas for events to stim- ulate interest in the area. After a suggestion from Coun. Pete Armstrong, it was decided that responsibility would fall under the scope of the newly -named South Huron Economic Development and Promotions Committee.
