XOXO Merry Christmas Love, Marty, Griffin and Brooklyn Phillips Place of residence: Hensall Ages: 6, 22 months and 3 months Parents: Dana and Jason Phillips The Christmas Tree Alex Miklovic Grade 3 Zurich Public School Once upon a time there was a boy who loved Christmas, but he loved the tree most of all. That night he was thinking about the next morning and especially the tree. All the pre- sents were going to be under the tree. Everything was going to be perfect so he went to sleep. The next morn- ing he slept in. When he woke up he came down stairs to eat breakfast. There was a clock in his kitchen. Then he realized the time. It was 10:00 in the morning. His eyes grew wide and he was shocked. He ran to his mom and asked her, "Did you open the pre- sents yet?" "No, not yet", said his mother, "but we will in a minute or maybe right now. Which one do you want to pick? "Right now", he said. "Okay", said his mother. "Then we will. Oh, where is your father?" "I don't know". "What's that sound in the basement?" "Oh, that is your father cut- ting the wood". "I'11 go get him. Dad, get up here right this instant, I want to open presents! Please" So they opened the presents and his dad came upstairs. The End! Are you busy making all of the toys? This year I would like a game boy that opens and closes and a game cube. My family already has a game cube but i would like one of my own. While she doesn't have an exact count, the newly -elected South Huron councillor has well over 300 decorative snowmen on display throughout her Kingscourt Crescent home. Seip's love of all things snowmen started about 10 years ago and she continues to add to her wide-rang- ing collection. Snowmen of all shapes and sizes are on display — visitors are welcomed by an inflat- able snowman on the front lawn and a snowman welcome mat on the porch. Seip's collection includes snowman -themed serving plates, a wreath, pillows and blankets, a tablecloth, pins and coasters. She says she's always looking to add to her collection and has bought her collectibles from all over the world. All her snowmen are special to Seip, but she says one of her more unique items is a hand- made snowman from the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Her most expensive snowman is a Waterford crystal from Ireland. "It's a nice hobby ... it's just a fun thing," Seip says, adding family and friends always know what gifts to buy her. Snowmen with a Christmas theme go into storage after Christmas, while the rest stay up until the spring. A special shelf of her favourite snowmen stays up year round. Storing her snowmen is a prob- lem, Seip admits, as she has enough to fill "room after room." In the spirit of winter — Exeter's Cathy Seip is always looking to add to her collection of more than 300 decorative snowmen.
