Funding announced CLINTON — The McGuinty gov- ernment is announcing an addition- al $956,566 for Huron -Bruce in planned funding for 2007 to strengthen land ambulance ser- vices. Huron County will receive $648,769, while Bruce County will receive $307,797 MPP Carol Mitchell announced Monday on behalf of Health and Long -Term Care Minister George Smitherman. "We want Ontarians to know that quality ambulance services are available to them whenever they face a health emergency," said Mitchell. "This additional invest- ment will enable our government and Huron and Bruce counties to maintain the high standards of land ambulance services that are cur- rently provided in our area. The people of this province deserve nothing less." Province announces funding for Huron Perth Centre CLINTON — The McGuinty government announced funding last week for pro- grams that enhance victim services, includ- ing the Huron Perth Centre for Children and Youth. Huron -Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell said the Huron Perth Centre will receive $9,200 as part of the program. "This assistance will make a real difference in our community," Mitchell said. "It will help local agencies develop or enhance specialized supports to victims and their fami- lies to put them on the road to recovery." The McGuinty gov- ernment is providing about $1,189,770 this year to community- based agencies in western Ontario to support new programs and services for vic- tims of crime. Money for the "Victims' Justice Fund," which is dedi- cated to providing ser- vices for victims of crime, is collected through a surcharge, which is applied to provincial and federal fines. Through the fund, the government is pro- viding $15.1 million over three years for community-based pro- jects across Ontario — $6 million this year. This year, for the first time, the Office for Victims of Crime worked with commu- nity representatives in six regional commit- tees across the province and ministry staff to review and suggest projects that fill gaps and are inno- vative and effective. "The Office for Victims of Crime is proud that we have been able to take an active role in review- ing the applications for grants from the many local services," said chairperson of the Office for Victims of Crime Ruth Campbell. "Community involve- ment, both in the local agencies that develop the projects and the regional committees that review the appli- cations, is key to improving the services available to victims across the province."
