The Hawks had another rough weekend with a one-sided 9-2 loss at the hands of the visiting Thamesford Trojans before playing better Sunday night in Mitchell. But it wasn't enough as Exeter went down to defeat again 7-4. "We played a really good game against Mitchell. They're a good team and they had a full lineup...we only had 12 guys," said Exeter coach Deryk Howard. "We battled pret- ty good. It wasn't until late in the game that it got a little further wide open." The Hawks sit eight points back of the West Lorne Lakers for the last playoff spot in the Yeck conference and have a chance to close the gap Friday night when the Around the defence - Exeter Hawk Josh Wood breaks around the Thamesford defence Friday night at the South Huron Rec Centre. The Hawks were unable to break their slump, with a 9-2 defeat to Thamesford before being defeated 7-4 in Mitchell Sunday night. (photolscott Nixon) Lakers visit at 8:30 p.m. "The game Friday night is a big game," said Howard. "The guys know it, we've been talking about it." Howard added the team is looking forward to a stretch of home games after Christmas. "We're hoping if we get to within a point or two of one of the teams we're chasing, we'll have an edge." Despite having a short bench against Mitchell, Howard said Exeter fired 27 shots in the second period and scored three goals, but by the third period, the team had run out of gas. With the Hawks suffer- ing through the slump, Howard said the coaching staff has been able to eval- uate the players and how they respond. "We defi- nitely are getting a read on the guys that haven't given up and that have kept a positive attitude." The Hawks will be in North Middlesex Saturday night at 8:30 for their last game before Christmas. Lucan Tykes head to Leafs game lli BAD US SERVICE LTD.
