The Panthers dropped their first game with a close 48-37 decision to Woodstock College Avenue. Coach Terry O'Rourke said it was a good effort for the first game and considering there are a lot of new faces on the team. Lachlan Macgregor led the way with 12 points followed by Jordan McAuslan with nine points. Roger Mills, A.J. Miller, Scott Godkin and Corey Firth all had three points. In their second game against Central Huron, the Panthers came up flat and lost a 61-26 decision. Mills and Nick Williams each had six points and McAuslan added five points each. In their third game against St. Marys, the Panthers played better and came away with a 47-20 victo- ry Macgregor scored 12 points while Mills had 11 and MacAuslan had eight. Miller also scored seven points and Williams had five . O'Rourke said considering the lack of experience on the team, it was a good weekend. (photo/Pat Bolen) for Hawks EXETER — At the halfway point of the season, Exeter Hawk coach Deryk Howard said the team will be trying to refocus this week after a pair of losses on the weekend. "This practice we're going to pick it up a notch. Just work harder and hopefully get better results." The Hawks were in Thamesford Dec. 2 and Howard said despite being on the short end of an 8-2 score, the team finally got the goal- tending it was looking for. The Hawks allowed 58 shots against the Trojans and Howard said goalie Steve Osgood played well. The Hawks were closer in Mt. Brydges Dec. 2 but came up short in a 7-4 loss. 'The effort on Saturday was there...but we're getting the same result right now," said Howard. The Hawks have a pair of games this weekend with Lambeth visiting Friday night at 8:30 p.m. which will be the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Those attending the game are asked to bring pajamas to donate to the Huron County Christmas Bureau or a non-perishable food item. The Hawks will be in Belmont Saturday night at 7:45 p.m. "We are getting better. The efforts are there for continually more and more minutes a game. Every game we're playing more and more," said Howard. "The guys know that we're as good a team as any. We're just not getting the results right now." Panthers get good start on ice Court winners — The Usborne Girls were the champions at the regional volleyball tournament held at South Huron District High School Nov. 24.The team is back from Ieft,Ashley McKnight and Shelby Oke. South Huron was in Clinton Nov. 13 and Strano said there were some good sur- prises with younger players demonstrating a scoring touch as SHDHS defeated Clinton 8- 2. Keri Reschke had two goals in the win with Sara Burtch also getting two. Picking up singles in the win were Kristin Ferguson, Avalon Kerslake, Janessa Varley and Carly Mercer. The Panthers were at home Nov. 23 for a mini -tournament and took on St. Annes in the first game. Strano said the Panthers started slow but regrouped with improved effort and intensity in the third period for a 5-0 win. The Panthers fmished the day with a 12-5 pounding of Goderich District Collegiate Institute. South Huron was in Listowel Dec. 1 and split a pair of games with a 3-1 loss to St. Mikes but came away with a 4-2 win over Listowel District Secondary School. The Panthers next home action is Dec. 13 with a mini -tournament at the Rec Centre.
