Wednesday, November 29, 2006 SPORTS Exeter Times -Advocate 1 6-4 lo s s for Hawks to Thamesford Hensall Shuffleboard By Pat Bolen TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF EXETER - The Exeter Hawks deserved a better fate than what they came away with last week as they dropped their fourth game in a row with a 6-4 loss at home to the Thamesford Trojans Nov. 24. Exeter coach Deryk Howard said the team had its best effort of the year against the Trojans and outplayed the visitors for every period before a bounce sent the game the Trojans' way. "We finished the game the way you'd like to," said Howard. "We're going to take that into our next game and play with the confidence knowing we did out- play them." Howard added the Hawks also out- played the Bulldogs for the final two periods Nov. 22 in Mt. Brydges, despite a 5-3 loss. "So we're getting there." The losses leave the Hawks with a 4- 14-0 record for eight points and last in the conference. North Middlesex leads the conference with 31 points, one ahead of Lambeth while Tavistock leads the league overall with 34 points. Lucan sits four points ahead of the Hawks while Central Elgin has 10. Against the Trojans Nov. 24, the Hawks had a 2-1 lead after the first period on goals from Adam Johns and Troy Elder. The teams were tied after 3-3 two periods with a short- handed goal from Dan Moir answered by a pair of goals from the Trojans. An early power play goal in the third from Ryan Abrams put the Hawks ahead 4-3. But two minutes after Abrams put the Hawks ahead, Thamesford tied it before taking the lead with a power play goal at 5:03 and sealing the win with two seconds left in the game. In the lineup for the Hawks against the Trojans were three callups from the South Huron Juveniles and Howard said the addition of Justin Cann, Andy Sedlak and Johns added a spark to the team. "They were so impressive," said Howard. "They worked their tails off." Another addition the Hawks have made is former London Junior Knight Jeff Fiddy in net, but Howard said the team will be Exeter Bridge Above average scores for Nov. 22: Art Pfaff and Robert Drummond .729, Lil and Harry Mathers .552, Carole and Dennis Hockey .542 T J's pool league Men's League - Chris MacDonald 707, John Hayter 734, Bob Jones 655, John Burdon 540, Terry Haugh 537, Gary Dietrich 536, Justin Brouillard 503, K.Ward 487, Ken Kadey 476, Bill Crump 418, Derek Tiller 407, Jim Hayter 399, Ben Hoogenboom 377, Howard Jones 353, Stephan McGee 353, Garrett Redegeld 332, Ken Genttner 330, Curtis MacDonald 319, Matt Huard 248, Tyler Scott 24, Clay Momersteeg 184, Mark Hunt (Flaps) 163, Nick Boom 122, Shane Vanromphey 94, Gus Gregus 88, Frank Tiller 62, Eric (Frenchie) 49 Nov. 22 K.
