Help change
the world
HURON — During AIDS Awareness
Week, the Huron County Health Unit
urges you to change the world, one
action at a time.
Around the world, the last week of
November is AIDS Awareness Week.
The week concludes with World
AIDS Day Friday.
The goal of AIDS Awareness Week
is to promote understanding of HIV
and AIDS, reduce stigma and dis-
crimination, and promote safer sex.
Every day in Canada, 11 people
are newly infected with HIV. In
2005, there were 7,984 positive
cases of HIV in Ontario.
The truth is that there is no cure
for HIV and AIDS. Prevention is your
best defence.
Anyone can be infected with HIV.
It's not who you are that puts you at
risk for HIV Infection. It's what you
do.
The virus can be passed though
blood, semen or vaginal fluid of an
infected person. The virus can get
into your skin through a break or
tear.
Protect yourself and get tested.
Free testing and initial counselling is
available at the Huron County
Health Unit.
For more information, call the
Health Unit at 482-3416 or visit the
Canadian HIV/AIDS Information
Centre website at
www. aidssida. cpha. ca. You can also
call the Huron County HIV/AIDS
Network at 482-1141 or the AIDS
Committee of London at 519-434-
1601.
