Biggest crowd ever — Many people from Exeter and the area attend-
ed the 10th annual Exeter Lioness lighting at MacNaughton Park last
Friday night. Organizers say the lighting attracted what was expected to
be the biggest crowd ever to the event, attributed partially to the mild
weather.Above front from left are KellyWein, Kennedy Borland, Michelle
Russell and Amy Scott; back row are Jason, Julie and Nancy Wein, just a
few visitors at the lighting. Below, entertainment was also part of the
night. From left are Anne Hartman, Mark and his daughter Emily
Hartman and Anne's husband Eugene Hartman singing "Grandma Got
Run Over by a Reindeer." Bottom, the Exeter Lioness serve up some
hot chocolate and timbits. From left are Elaine Pinder, Shirley Mousseau
and Liz Stephens giving Chelsey Hay -Janke a cup of hot chocolate. (pho-

Local businesses
reach excellence
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
WINGHAM — Local businesses had a successful night last
week at the first annual Huron Manufacturing Excellence
Awards at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex in
Wingham.
Awards were handed out in six different categories, with
businesses in the Times -Advocate's readership area having a
strong showing.
Winning the Innovative Manufacturing Award, given to three
companies who achieved best results by applying innovative
manufacturing techniques, were Dashwood Industries of
Centralia, Exi-Plast Custom Moulding of Huron Park and
Syfilco Ltd. of Exeter.
One of the things recognized in the Innovative Manufacturing
category was how companies were creative while becoming
more efficient. The Huron Manufacturing Association (HMA) is
promoting efficiency, or "lean" manufacturing. The HMA is
also promoting something called "kaizen," which HMA co-ordi-
nator Monica Walker -Bolton described as continuous improve-
ment.
