In your busy life, I hope that you took time during the past couple of weeks to stop and be thankful for all those men and women who dedicated their lives to fighting to provide us and future generations with freedom. We are thankful for their many contributions to the quality of life that we enjoy. Christmas is another special time to stop and be thankful for the many blessings in our lives. There are a variety of upcoming activities where you can share the joy of the Christmas season. Bethlehem Walk On Fri., Nov. 24, the Bethlehem Walk will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre. This is a re-enactment of the Christmas story, hosted by local communi- ty churches. Hope you can attend. I'm sure you'll recognize friends and neighbours. Non- perishable goods for local food banks are wel- come. There is a tax for census taking of $2 per family. Please dress for the outdoors. Hopefully the weather will continue to cooper- ate for this event. Also on Friday night, the Christmas lights will be turned on at MacNaughton Park and there will be special music. On Sat., Nov. 25, there will be many friendly faces watching the annual Christmas parade at noon on Main Street. Exeter United Church invites everyone to a special Christmas concert featuring wonderful handbell music provided by the groups Bells Ablaze and Bellissima Ringers. This will be held Sun., Nov. 26, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Proceeds go to the Benevolent Fund. For tickets, call 519- 235-0860. Sun., Nov. 26 is also the first Sunday in Advent. Everyone is invited to participate in worship at Zion West United Church at 9:45 a.m. or at Centralia United Church at 11:30 a.m. On Sun., Dec. 3, White Gift Sunday will be celebrated at Centralia and Zion West United Churches. Gifts or donations will be welcomed for donation to the Christmas Bureau. Rev. Michelle Down led worship in a joint service for Centralia -Zion West pastoral charge on Sun., Nov. 19. She thanked Judy Mills for her support and for providing musical accompaniment during worship. Sam Skinner and Ray Mills greeted everyone at the door and welcomed them. Rev. Michelle enjoyed sharing children's time with Jason Essery as they discussed the special abilities of yeast to grow and change into something wonderful, just like people. She read Scripture from Ephesians 4:11-16. Rev. Michelle's sermon was "Being Faithful Today and Tomorrow". She was assisted by the Elders in distributing bread and wine for the celebration of Communion. A meeting of the pastoral charge followed worship. CENTRALIA NEWS Christmas dinner planned for Dec. 3 By Liz Sangster HENSALL CORRESPONDENT HENSALL — The annual village tree -lighting ceremony will be held Fri., Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. Join the Hensall Community Development Action Committee and the Hensall Fire Department for this traditional event of tree -lighting, song, refreshments and a visit from Santa. Please bring non-perish- able food items or a new unwrapped toy for the Huron County Christmas Bureau collec- tion. At Hensall United Church a special anniver- sary was cele- brated. The ser- vice began with an organ pre- lude with Carol Carter playing the organ. Welcome and passing of the peace were fol- lowed by Linda Traquair lighting the Christ can- dle. Linda Traquair read the scripture les- son. "Song of Mary" was the responsive read- ing. Vicki Hayter was the soloist for this special service. Rev Scott had a story for the chil- dren. The ser- vice closed with commissioning, benediction and choral amen. Carol played a postlude as everyone went to the church par- lour for a pot- luck lunch and a social hour. Les Hills said grace before the meal. Taking part in the service were ushers Mary Lou Hyde, and Lucielle Beer, special music Vicki Hayter, reader and can- dle -lighter Linda Traquair, nursery Sue Mann and Jane Fragiskatos. The Hensall and Community Horticultural Society will hold their annual pot -luck supper at 5:30 p.m. on Sun., Nov. 26 at Hensall United Church. The guest speaker will be Brenda Campbell from Cozyn's Garden Gallery in Stratford. It has been suggested that we wear red or green for this meeting. Brenda will show us different ideas for decorating the exterior of the home. Sun., Dec. 3 will be the annual Community Christmas Dinner at Hensall United Church. 50 or over?
