White Gift Sunday on Sun., Dec. 3
By Mary Peterson
CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT
CENTRALIA — Do you ever wonder where
the time goes so quickly? In your busy life, I
hope that you took time during the past couple
of weeks to stop and be thankful for all those
men and women who dedicated their lives to
fighting to provide us and future generations
with freedom. We are thankful
for their many contributions to
the quality of life that we enjoy.
Christmas is another special time to stop and
be thankful for the many blessings in our lives.
There are a variety of upcoming activities
where you can share the joy of the Christmas
season.
Bethlehem Walk
On Fri., Nov. 24, the Bethlehem Walk will be
held at 7:30 p.m. at the Kirkton-Woodham
Community Centre. This is a re-enactment of
the Christmas story, hosted by local communi-
ty churches. Hope you can attend. I'm sure
you'll recognize friends and neighbours. Non-
perishable goods for local food banks are wel-
come. There is a tax for census taking of $2
per family. Please dress for the outdoors.
Hopefully the weather will continue to cooper-
ate for this event.
Also on Friday night, the Christmas lights
will be turned on at MacNaughton Park and
there will be special music. On Sat., Nov. 25,
there will be many friendly faces watching the
annual Christmas parade at noon on Main
Street.
Exeter United Church invites everyone to a
special Christmas concert featuring wonderful
handbell music provided by the groups Bells
Ablaze and Bellissima Ringers. This will be
held Sun., Nov. 26, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10
for adults and $5 for students. Proceeds go to
the Benevolent Fund. For tickets, call 519-
235-0860.
Sun., Nov. 26 is also the first Sunday in
Advent. Everyone is invited to
participate in worship at Zion
West United Church at 9:45 a.m.
or at Centralia United Church at 11:30 a.m.
On Sun., Dec. 3, White Gift Sunday will be
celebrated at Centralia and Zion West United
Churches. Gifts or donations will be welcomed
for donation to the Christmas Bureau.
Rev. Michelle Down led worship in a joint
service for Centralia -Zion West pastoral
charge on Sun., Nov. 19. She thanked Judy
Mills for her support and for providing musical
accompaniment during worship.
Sam Skinner and Ray Mills greeted everyone
at the door and welcomed them.
Rev. Michelle enjoyed sharing children's time
with Jason Essery as they discussed the special
abilities of yeast to grow and change into
something wonderful, just like people. She
read Scripture from Ephesians 4:11-16. Rev.
Michelle's sermon was "Being Faithful Today
and Tomorrow". She was assisted by the
Elders in distributing bread and wine for the
celebration of Communion.
A meeting of the pastoral charge followed
worship.
