Queensway volunteers, residents and staff were very happy with the turn out for their Craft & Bake Sale held 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Nov. 18. There was something for everyone with the variety of vendors in attendance and residents enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbours in the Tea Room, comparing their bargains purchased at the sale. Winners of the door prizes donated for the sale were: Scented Teddy Bear - Erla Coleman, Poinsettia - Judy Struthers, Poinsettia - Arnetta Baker, Candle Holders - Marie Jaques, Ornament - Deb Timmermans, Book - Sherri Boniface, Bracelet - Ina Russell, Acrylic Christmas Figurine - Ed Galloway. Congratulations to all the winners and our thanks for attending the sale. Queensway's Volunteer Auxiliary organized the Craft & Bake Sale with all proceeds going to Nursing Home Resident Council & Retirement Residents Operations Group. Bethel Reform Women provided assistance at the Monday afternoon bingo and also held a hymn sing following the game. Lori Burt, Registered Massage Therapist was in Monday working with several residents. Tuesday at 11 a.m. Family Council Members met for their regular monthly meet- ing chaired by Shirley Hall S.W. We would welcome more family or friends of residents to join our council and welcome calls for fur- ther information. Rev. John Trembulak of Zion Lutheran Church in Dashwood led worship Tuesday afternoon with Belva Fuss as volunteer pianist. In the evening the Christian Reform Singers provided an evening of Gospel music for an attentive audience. Wednesday afternoon Euchre was orga- nized by volunteer Donna Smale. Pastor Elly Van Bergen, Queensway's Pastoral Care vol- unteer led a meaningful Memorial Service Wednesday evening honouring the lives of several deceased residents with special mem- ories shared and favourite hymns sung accompanied by volunteer pianist & Auxiliary Volunteer Francis Kinsman. Father Peter of St. Boniface in Zurich led Mass for Roman Catholic residents Thursday morning with volunteer Mariette Bilcke in to assist residents. Several residents benefited from manicures in the afternoon. Carol Lebeau played piano for a very appre- ciative crowd Friday evening in the retire- ment residence lounge and on Sunday after- noon Gail Mason and her Fellowship Singers sang & visited with residents in the nursing home sunroom. Throughout the week exer- cise programs, reading, music, games and preparing for the Craft & Bake Sale kept resi- dents busy. (photo/Nina Van Lieshout) Lots of Christmas events planned in Varna By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA - Pastor Elly Van Bergen opened the worship service in Goshen with a warm welcome to everyone followed by the announce- ments. The official board meet at Goshen Church this Wed., Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. Sun., Nov. 26 Communion will be cele- brated and there will be spe- cial music by Lorelei Lingard at the Goshen Church. Varna U.C.W. Christmas party is at the complex this year with dinner catered at 6 p.m. Special entertainment by Cheryl -Ann Ste. Onge and children. Advent Events There will be an Advent Event at Varna on Dec. 2nd "Twas in the Moon of Wintertime" - Huron Christmas Carol beginning with a candlelight worship service with special music at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary fol- lowed by refreshments and Open House downstairs. This Advent event will also be held on Sun., Dec. 3 from 2-4 p.m. There are other Christmas events coming up at different churches. Please check your church bulletin and share other events in other church- es. Bill Taylor is selling Amaryllis bulbs for Huntington's Society at $10. Please give Bill a ring if you want one. Anniversary wishes were extended to Phylis and Dean Aldwinckle on their 56th Anniversary and also a birth- day wish to Heather Dawe. Pastor Elly's learning time with the children was on "Dedicated to God." The choir's gift of music was The Mansion on the Hilltop and Elly's message was titled "A Sweet Unmurmuring Faith. Shuffleboard and crokinole Shuffling at the Complex started last Wednesday. Top scores for three games were Wes McBride 199, Bernice Reid 181, Charles Reid 176 and Margaret Hayter 158. All are welcome to come out and enjoy the game as well as the fellowship at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays. The Crokinole Club met last Tues., Nov. 14 at the Varna Church for singles play. Members were divided ran- domly into two groups A and B. The A group managed to complete seven games and the B group completed six games. The top scores in the A group were Abe Leitch 65, Gerald Dearing 53 and Ivan McClymont and Bill Hearn tied with 51. Joe Fulop topped the B side with 54 points, Conrad Sitter 47, Dave Whyte 46 and Ronnie Coleman with 39 points. Next crokinole night will be Tues., Nov. 28 for doubles play. The community are still col- lecting for Graham Keys and his fiance Paulien Remijn (both Varna residents). They will be married on Dec. 23. You may drop off your donation at the Varna Country Store.
