Despite the loss, head coach Deryk Howard was impressed with the effort of the club in Lambeth. "I wasn't disappointed with it," said Howard. "We played hard the whole time." Against West Lorne, Howard said the Hawks' game plan was to get on the Lakers before they could break out of their own zone and they were able to execute the plan. "We had offensive zone pres- sure, sometimes for three or four minutes at a time. We were able to finally use the rules to generate calls." Improving the Hawks defence will be a priority for Howard who said while the team expected its goals against to go up slightly due to the rule changes, the Hawks penalty troubles caused its goals against to go up substantially. But Howard said the penalty minutes of the Hawks have dropped considerably the past two games. "It looks like things are heading the right way." "The hard work was the first thing and we're doing that every night. And using the rules to our advantage has made for some tighter games." With the Hawks using only three lines, Howard said everyone is enjoying the new system. "We're almost over the hump as far as adjusting to the physical aspect. It demands more of the guys because you're playing so much." Howard said with extra playing time both coaches and players are more into the game. The Hawks have a light sched- ule the next two weeks with only two games to play and Howard said while it allows extra practice time, he would like to add some points in the standings. "We're not really worried about points at the moment, it's a great chance to keep practicing and we're doing dry land training as well." Although Howard is alternating his goalies, "right now, we're looking for someone to step up and say, 'it's mine.— With the Mitchell Hawks in town Friday night, Howard said moti- vation won't be a problem after an 8-2 loss at the hands of Mitchell Nov. 3 on home ice. "That's going to be a bit of mea- suring stick for us...I'm really hoping to battle with Mitchell. They're always a hard working team."
