Announcements/Community
Queensway Nursing Home gears up for a busy November
QUEENSWAY - Sunday afternoon Oct. 30 staff served
tea, coffee and cinnamon muffins that residents had
baked, at a gathering of residents and visitors in the unit
dining room. One Sunday each month an afternoon
"Tea" is held when residents can host their friends and
family members for an afternoon of refreshments and
visiting.
Monday morning the exercise program got everyone
off to a good start as they worked with Thera bands for
resistance training and free weights to promote
strength. Games and quizzes finished off the hour long
program. In the afternoon the last bingo of the month
took place with the Hensall United Church Women pro-
viding assistance and prizes.
Breakfast group volunteer Lillian Beer helped serve
the eggs, sausage patties, toast, fruit, tea and coffee
Tuesday morning to the group of eight participants.
Later in the morning a mass "Pumpkin Carving" took
place in the Sunroom. Consensus was that our pump-
kins should all have happy faces so efforts were made to
create just that. Tuesday afternoon Shirley Luther of the
Salvation Army with her husband Eric as volunteer
pianist led a Worship Service for residents.
Donna Smale organized the Euchre players
Wednesday afternoon and in the evening Marie Flynn
entertained a large group of residents in the sunroom
Trivitt supports Habitat for Humanity
EXETER — Trivitt
Memorial Anglican Church
held its annual Community
Thanksgiving Celebration
service and dinner Oct. 1.
The celebration, an occa-
sion for the entire commu-
nity to gather and give
thanks for the many bless-
ings we share, also provid-
ed an opportunity to pre-
sent $56,000 to a variety
of community organiza-
tions.
The celebration commit-
tee, chaired by Friedhelm
Hoffmann, decided that
each year a different char-
ity would be supported
through the gift of the ser-
vice's open offering and
the profits from the din-
ner.
"This gives Trivitt
Memorial a chance to
showcase a variety of
organizations and the
good work they do our
community," said
Hoffmann.
This year's charity of
choice was Habitat for
Humanity Huron County, a
non-profit, independent
housing program that is
locally managed.
Habitat for Humanity
Huron County is entirely
operated by volunteers
and sells homes to quali-
fied families through
`sweat equity' and non-
interest mortgages.
Trivitt Memorial was
thrilled to have raised
$5,700 for Habitat for
Humanity throughout the
day of celebration.
The presentation was
made by celebration com-
mittee member John Astle
at Habitat's monthly board
meeting.
Astle noted that the com-
mittee "is a pleasure to
work on throughout the
year because we all know
how blessed Trivitt has
been to have received
such a generous bequest
from the estate of the late
Mildred Grimes."
In receiving the gift,
Habitat Huron County
chairperson Paul Dyck
noted that "this gift is an
example of the grace of
God at work." While
Habitat is busy preparing
for the building of its third
house, located in Hensall,
Trivitt's celebration com-
mittee is already hard at
work on the 2007
Thanksgiving Celebration.
