Mark your calendars with events in Varna

VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA - The Varna U.C.W. met last Thursday
evening. Debbie Rathwell opened the meeting with
the U.C.W. Purpose, the reason why we were there fol-
lowed by prayer.
Margaret Hayter read a letter of thanks for the used
stamps. Margaret sent five lbs of used stamps which
she collected from Tuckersmith Telephone office,
Bluewater Municipality Office, Hensall Co-op and other
people whom save them.
A few ladies attended the Fall Rally in Stratford.
Carol Simons is the Huron Perth Presbyterial presi-
dent. The Annual executive meeting will be Jan 29 at
the Brucefield Church.
Pastor Elly Van Bergen was thanked for putting the
coffee on Sunday mornings when Worship is in Varna.
Graham Keys (resident of Varna) is getting married
on Dec. 23. A collection envelope will be at the Corner
Store in Varna.
Eleanor McAsh read a reading on Remembrance fol-
lowed by Mary Ostrom with prayer.
Cookbooks "Let's Bake Bread" are still selling and
still for sale.
Thanks to leader Debbie Rathwell for carrying on as
leader with the support and reminders of members.
Next meeting will be Nov. 30 which will be the
Christmas Dinner and program.
A short executive meeting was held following the
regular meeting.
Worship Service was in Varna Church on Sunday
honouring Remembrance day. Jacob Govier dressed
in Scout Uniform lit the Christ candle. The gift of
music from the Choir was A Song of Peace and Pastor
Elly VanBergen's message was on "What Part of No
Did You Not Understand?"
Happy 21st Anniversary was extended to Brenda and
Scott Consitt.
Wreath service at the Cenotaph
Following the service the congregation paraded to
the Cenotaph for the Cenotaph Service and laying of
the wreaths. New resident of Varna Paul Dearlove
played the Last Post. Wreaths were laid. Floyd McAsh
laid the wreath representing the Veterans, Dave Roy
represented the Province of Ontario, Jim Ferguson laid
the Wreath for the Municipality of Bluewater and
Charles Reid laid the wreath representing the L.O.L.
Worship will be in Varna on Sun., Nov. 12.
Advent Dec. 2 and 3
Mark your calendar for the Advent Event at Varna
Church to be held Dec. 2 and 3 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7-9
p.m. both days. "Twas In the Moon of Wintertime" is
the theme. Woodsy Decorations and woodland Santas
or Father Christmas figures are needed. Please speak
to Elly for more information or if you have any.
Food drive — Zurich firefighters were out on the streets of the com-
munity Saturday morning collecting canned food donations.Among
those helping out were from left, firefighters Marty Merner, Brian
DePaepe, Brian McLeod and Kevin McKinnon along with Emily DePaepe.

Friends of the Orphans project by Don and Joan
Brodie. Friends of the Orphans (FOTO) "Canada is
dedicated to seeking and providing support of the
needs of an estimated 100 million orphaned and aban-
doned children in the Dominican Republic and other
places. A ship container is being prepared to send to
the Dominican. Items needed range from household
supplies, toys, sports equipment, toiletries, bedding
and towels. Complete specific lists are available.
