(photo/submitted) POLICE BRIEFS Roads wet and slippery HURON — Huron OPP kept busy during the night of Oct. 12, as a result of the rain and wet snow, officers attended 5 motor vehicle collisions sliding into the ditch. The OPP Huron Detachment is reminding motorists that the roads are slippery. Motorists are reminded to slow down, leave more space between vehicles and refrain from accelerating, braking or changing lanes on slippery surfaces if not required to do so. Please refrain from call- ing the OPP for weather and road condi- tions, as this information will not be pro- vided. If your vehicle slides into a ditch or breaks down, please remain inside the vehicle and call the OPP at 1-888-310- 1122 or * OPP (*677) on your cellular phone. Remaining inside the vehicle is the safest place to wait for assistance. If you have abandoned your vehicle and it is interfering with road maintenance opera- tions, you may return to find it towed, regardless if a note was left in the win- dow. Please be patient if waiting for a tow truck or emergency services. Calls will be responded to on a priority basis. There is no acceptable excuse to having been involved in a collision. Collisions cannot be blamed on the weather, but they can be blamed on drivers failing to adjust their driving.
