NOTICE OF STUDY COMMENCEMENT
MUNICIPALITY OF SOUTH HURON, STEPHEN WARD 1
WATER SUPPLY MASTER PLAN
The purpose of this notice is to inform local residents and property and
business owners that the Municipality of South Huron intends to complete a
Class Environmental Assessment for Stephen Ward 1 Water Supply Master
Plan. Gamsby and Mannerow Limited has been retained by the Municipality to
complete this study.
Stephen Ward 1 of South Huron includes the communities of Dashwood,
Crediton, Mount Carmel, sections of Grand Bend, Huron Park, Centralia and
the former Stephen Township. The water supply system was originally
constructed between approximately 1950 and as late as 2006. Drinking water
is now supplied by the Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System (LHPWSS)
and other private sources.
In order to maintain drinking water quality and ensure continued public
safety and reliability in the drinking water distribution system serving the
area of the Municipality of South Huron Stephen Ward 1, there is a need to
assess long term water servicing requirements. Issues to be addressed include
aging infrastructure, distribution system circulation and adequacy of water
supply volumes and pressures. Planning will consider the most efficient,
dependable and least disruptive methods of providing overall improvements
to the water supply and distribution system, thereby improving the overall
level of service, ease of operation and maintenance and allowing for
sustainable development. The study will also consider impacts to water
supply systems adjacent to the service area.
A Master Plan allows for an integrated process with other planning initiatives
and provides a strategic level assessment of various options to better address
overall system needs and potential impacts and mitigation.
This Master Plan will include a thorough review of all system components and
identify current deficiencies and potential future opportunities. Preferred
solutions for any required upgrades will be analyzed and evaluated based on
the following: Water Quality; Public Safety; Social Environment; Cultural
Environment; Natural Environment; and Economic Environment.
Public input and comments are invited during the planning and design
process of this study. Please contact the following with your comments or if
you require additional information regarding this project:
