LUCAN — The Lucan-Ilderton Jets
outscored the Goderich Pirates 21-5
in a pair of games on the weekend.
The Jets were in Goderich Oct. 27
and hammered the Pirates with a
11-4 win, taking a 4-1 lead after the
first on goals by Tim Parsons, Brady
Kjeldgaard, Brad Yeo and Greg
Lalonde.
The visitors added two more in the
second period with Jason Davies get-
ting both before the Jets put the
game away in the third on five more
goals as Darrell Parsons, Mark Read,
and JD McFarlane fired singles and
Shawn Fairweather added two.
The Pirates were in Lucan Oct. 29
and again the game was close for
two periods. The Jets had another 4-
1 lead after two periods on two more
goals from Fairweather and one
each from Mike Vandeven and Todd
Hunt.
The Jets took control again in the
third as they fired six more as
Lalonde and Mark Landon each had
two with Wilson and Steve Mathews
getting one each.
Starting in net for Goderich was
Kate Lane, who has been signed to a
card by the Pirates.
Despite the 10 goals, Andrews said
he thought Lane played outstanding.
"She really didn't have a chance on
a lot of the shots."
Lane is a former goalie for
Dartmouth of the NCAA and
Andrews gives Goderich manager
Trevor Bazinet credit for signing
Lane. "She is carded with them and
they are, I think, going to play her on
a regular basis."
Andrews said the Jets players did-
n't let up driving to the net. "They
still crashed the net and did every-
thing you would in an ordinary game
and she seemed to handle it just
fine."
The Jets have just one game this
weekend when they travel to
Tavistock Saturday night at 8:30
p.m. Andrews said the Jets started to
turn their game around following a
recent loss to Clinton. "We had a let
down...and the boys all knew it."

WOSSAA bronze
for Panthers
EXETER — The South Huron District High School
field hockey Panthers finished their season Oct. 26
at the WOSSAA competition at Medway.
The Panthers won the bronze medal by defeating
Medway in a shootout by a 2-1 score.
Kaitlyn Hakvoort gave an excellent performance in
net as she stoned the Medway shooters, said coach
Jim Workman.
Kristin Ferguson and Kelly Cronyn netted for the
Panthers to win the bronze.
The game ended in a 0-0 tie after regulation and
0-0 after sudden death overtime.
The Panthers lifted their game and had the most
chances in a hotly contested game in less than ideal
conditions, but could not find the allusive, net said
Workman.
He said it was a great team performance with vet-
eran Cronyn playing superb as did rookie Karly
Bryson.
Workman said in the semifinal game, the Panthers
worked hard and had many chances to score, but
again could not find that finishing touch.
Parkside from St. Thomas took the few chances
they had and punished South Huron, scoring one in
the first half and one with a few minutes remaining
in the game and against the run of play.
In pool play, the Panthers started off against
Medway and played their hearts out, leaving noth-
ing in the tank.
The field was a mud bowl, but both teams played
great hockey.
Medway scored in a goal mouth scramble but the
Panthers stormed back and should have had two
goals, but Workman said both were disallowed
because it was impossible to see the goal line.
The 1-0 loss was a real disappointment to the
South Huron girls, but they gathered enough com-
posure to defeat Strathroy in the second pool game,
which was another disappointment compared to the
earlier game.
South Huron opened the scoring after 16 minutes
with Lindsay Mills scoring from a Ferguson pass.
Mills again scored midway through the second half
to seal the victory, with a final score of 2-0.
Goderich, coached by Ray Lewis, won WOSSAA
and advances to OFSAA, together with Parkside.
In the final Huron -Perth league games of the sea-
son, South Huron defeated St. Marys 5-1 with
Sandra Gregus opening the scoring after five min-
utes.
Kelly Cronyn added a second as she converted an
Abbey Oke penalty corner.
In the second half, Staci Miller scored from a
Ferguson pass and Ferguson scored two of her own
to wrap up the scoring.
South Huron also played St. Anne's and were
eager to prove the earlier victory by St. Anne's
would not be repeated.
Gregus opened the scoring after five minutes and
10 minutes later, Mills added to the total. Gregus
scored a second to finish the half up 3-0.
The game continued into the second half with the
Panthers applying most of the pressure but in one
defensive slip up they allowed St. Anne's to score a
goal.
Workman said this ended up as a successful sea-
son for the girls and with most returning next year,
it looks to be a promising season but the team is
always interested in finding new talent and hopes
next year's Grade nines will be full of keen athletes.
Workman wishes good luck to those graduating
players.
