Alice Broom, who has played the lot- tery for years, finally won the second place prize from the Sept. 30 draw and after telling her husband the great news he initially thought it was a joke. "It didn't seem real until we stepped inside the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation Prize Centre (OLG). I thought I was having a dream," Herbert Broom told staff at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto when they picked up their $100,000 cheque. "I feel as though a weight has been lifted off our shoulders," Herbert con- cluded. Herbert, 50, is a self-employed brick- layer and Alice, 46, is an RPN. They have two children and with this windfall, they are planning to pay off debts. The winning ENCORE was bought at SK Convenience on Main Street in Exeter. POLICE BRIEF Scammer attempts to confuse clerk LAMBTON SHORES — Lambton OPP are warning merchants that there is a male sus- pect who has been reported attempting to ask for several denominations of change while car- rying out a cash transaction. The sole purpose is to confuse the clerk and obtain more money back than he was enti- tled to. On Oct. 22 it is alleged that the male party attended the Beer Store in Grand Bend. The suspect tried to con- fuse the clerk while she was preparing change for the transaction repeatedly asking for the money to be changed into different denominations. The man is described as a being a white male, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 ' 9" in height, very short dark hair and missing front teeth. He was seen wearing a black leather jacket. The man was witnessed driving away, northbound on Highway 21 in a blue Honda style vehicle with a tail fin. The vehicle had an Ontario plate which was not identified.
