EXETER — While the school year just start-
ed last month, schools in the Avon Maitland
District School Board are already getting
ready to hold Kindergarten registration for
next year.
Locally, Kindergarten registration takes
place at Exeter Public School and Usborne
Central on Nov. 3, Stephen Central and Zurich
Public on Nov. 8, Hensall Public on Nov. 20,
and Huron Centennial on Nov. 29.
Children three years old by Dec. 31, 2006,
are eligible for Junior Kindergarten, while
children four years old by Dec. 31, 2006, are
eligible for Senior Kindergarten.
Exeter Public School principal Wayne
Brennan says his school has a number of
activities planned for registration day Nov. 3
to make the school as welcoming
and exciting as possible for future
students and their parents.
A number of community agencies
will be involved in the day including
the Huron County Health Unit, the
Exeter Library and the Small Talk
Program.
Kicking off at 9:15 a.m., the pro-
gram will go until 11 a.m., and will
see future students and their par-
ents visit a number of information
booths set up in the school gym.
"It's a really nice time for the kids
to be together with the other kids
they'll be going to school with,"
Brennan says, adding it's important
for the school to know how many
students they'll have next year.
He said the registration events are
also a good experience for parents.

will spend about 15 to 20 minutes at each
information centre in the gym. There will also
be fun activities for the kids such as story-
telling and building blocks.
"It's a really neat thing for the families,"
Brennan said.
This is the second year the school has held
such activities on registration day and
Brennan said the day was a success last year,
with about 25 registering. He said there will
be child care available at the school on regis-
tration day for toddlers.
Brennan is asking those who intend on reg-
istering their child at the school Nov. 3 to call
ahead of time so the school knows how many
people to expect and so registration packages
can be prepared. Exeter Public can be
reached at 235-2630.
Specifics on other schools in the area can be
found by calling the individual schools.
