The next 150th Anniversary Committee meeting will be Thurs., Nov. 2 at the Lutheran Church Hall at 7 p.m. Those involved are asked to attend and help plan for our next event. A lovely open house was held for Gwen McKellar last Saturday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Hall to celebrate her 80th birthday followed by a family dinner with relatives attending from various places. Gwen's actual birthday is in November. May we offer our sincere sympathy to husband Lee and the family and relatives of the late Rose Regier of the Blue Water Rest Home who passed away Oct. 20. In spite of the rain on Sunday over 20 members of the Gelinas and Sweeney families took part in a walk for "Epilepsy" in memory of Michele Gelinas at Springbank Park in London. It was arranged by her twin sister Melissa of Lucan. There will be a Rabies Vaccination clinic at the Veterinary Clinic in Zurich Sat., Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at a cost of $25 for each cat or dog. They must be on a leash or in a cage. Go around to the back of the building. The Ladies Auxiliary will meet at the Blue Water Rest Home on Tues., Nov. 7 with a musical program in the auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Please bring a cou- ple can good items for our Fundraising Draws that will take place at the Resident's Christmas Family Dinner on Sun., Nov. 12. Dues of $5 will be collected for next year. Get your tickets for the upcoming Fall Supper at the Lutheran Church on Sat., Nov. 18 Tickets are $12 for adults. There will be another Blood Donor Clinic at the Zurich Complex on Fri., Nov. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. The play "Peter Pan" will be in Goderich on Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 2, 7,8 9 and 10. Lisa Miller is playing Peter Pan. She is the daughter of Mike and Diane of St. Joseph. More information of time, place and cost will follow soon. The Zurich Fire Department are holding their annual Food Drive on Sat., Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon. Put out your donations at the curb or take them to the Fire Hall during these hours. All dona- tions will go to Blessings. Anyone wishing to go on a day bus trip to Frankenmuth, Michigan on Sat., Dec. 9 are to call Glen Thiel at 519-236-4060. Cost is $55 a person which includes a delicious chicken supper and Christmas musical at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the Lutheran Church in Zurich. Students of St. Boniface School are having a fundraiser through a gift Catalogue called "Santa's Little Helpers" Parents are asked to return orders by Nov. 6 to ensure delivery for Christmas. The Zurich Blue Water Skating Club are having a 'Try It Out Day.' Free Skating Lessons Sat., Oct. 28. Can Skate and Learn to Skate for children at 11 a.m. Adults are invited to come out at 11:55 a.m. A Halloween event with live bands is being planned at the Maverick's Paint Ball Sports Centre in Zurich on Tues., Oct. 31. This event is sponsored by Smiley's Pizza Place where you can purchase tickets. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. The St. Boniface Knights of Columbus are once again holding their card parties Progressive euchre in the parish hall on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 8 p.m. Cost is $3 at the door and everyone is wel- come. The St. Boniface Parish Bazaar was a big success. Lucky winners of draws were: First prize a money tree worth $50 went to Lisa Merner of Zurich. Second prize a crocheted centre piece was won by Simon Harburn. Third prize a grocery hamper went to Audrey Smith of Zurich and Brenda Grenier. On Mon., Oct. 30 a special speaker, Andy Thibodeau will be at St. Boniface School from 10:50 to 11 :50 a.m. He will speak to grades 4 to 8 stu- dents on a "Dare to Care" presentation. During the winter months anyone wanting to walk for exercise indoors can do so at the Exeter High School from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. or in the evening. The St. Boniface Catholic Women's league meeting was held on Oct. 17 with 20 members present fol- lowing the Living Rosary with Mass for Vocations said by Father John. President Deb Pennings wel- comed everyone and reports were given by various convenors. Bella and Carol Prang are in charge of the White Ribbon Campaign now taking place at the back of the church. Right to Life Membership dues are $10 a family ZURICH NEWS Capsule Comments by Ernie Miatello The Pap smear was developed back in the 1940's by Dr. George Papanicolaou as a test for cervical cancer. This test is still in use today and is another example of early detection increasing the odds of curing a cancer. When taking your bedtime medications, ifs important to take them with a lot of water and not lie down for five minutes afterwards. It's important that the medication get right down into the stomach and not halfway down which could cause irritation and possible interruption of sleep. Women are victims of a very disabling form of discrimination. Two- thirds of Canadians with arthritis are women. Osteoarthritis affects twice as many women as men and rheumatoid arthritis affects 2 and 1/2 times as many women. Here's an interesting comment: Self-centred people who often speak in the first person (I, me, myl have a higher risk of heart disease than those who focus on things other than themselves.
