LUCAN — It was a successful first
week to the 2006-07 hockey season

a 3-0 start.
The Jets capped off their week
with a 7-5 win Saturday night at
home against their Highway 4
rivals the Hensall Sherwoods, who
are 1-1 after their first week of reg-
ular season action.
After opening their season at
home Oct. 7 with a big 10-8 win
over the Milverton 4 Wheel Drives,
Lucan Ilderton went on to beat the
Tavistock Royals 5-2 on the road
last Friday.
In Saturday's Jets-Sherwoods
game, the Jets took a 3-0 lead into
the first intermission from goals by
Jason Wilson, Andy Marshall and
Brad Yeo. In the second Jason
Davies and Shawn Fairweather
added goals for the Jets, with Scott
Davies and Jeremy Geoffrey scoring
for the Sherwoods.
Jason Davies and Fairweather
both scored again for the Jets in the
third, with goals from the
Sherwoods by Chris Kennedy, Chris
Downie and Jeremy Geoffrey.
"It's been an adjustment to the
rules," Andrews said, explaining
the Jets' Friday night game against
Tavistock was a penalty -filled
affair.
"This league is going to depend
on your power plays and your
penalty killing," he added. "It's
going to be interesting."
Andrews is pleased with his
team's start.
"We have a real good team this
year."
This week the Jets play at home
Saturday at 8:30 p.m., hosting the
Clinton Radars.
The Sherwoods started their sea-
son Oct. 7 with a big 10-2 road win
over the Thedford Dirty Dogs. Their
game last Friday was cancelled
after the Listowel team folded.

Panthers have strong week
EXETER — The South
Huron Panthers played three
games this week and had to
cancel one because of the first
snow fall of the year.
The Panthers played
Listowel in two games, earn-
ing convincing victories in
both cases. In the first game,
the Panthers won 4-0, with
Staci Miller opening the scor-
ing from advance work by
Kelly Cronyn and Carly
Schroeder.
Cronyn added the second
goal, assisted by Schroeder
and Abbey Oke. The score
was 2-0 at the half. Four min-
utes into the second, Lindsay
Mills scored, assisted by
Cronyn, and Mills added her
second four minutes later,
again assisted by Cronyn.
In the second game, the
Panthers continued their win-
ning trend, with Mills opening
the scoring after only three
minutes after an excellent run
by Oke. Halfway into the first
half, Cronyn scored from an
Oke penalty corner, assisted
by Schroeder. Four minutes
before the half, Kristin
Ferguson scored from an Oke
free hit. In the second half,
Mills added her second from a
Sandra Gregus pass. Oke
scored the fifth goal on a goal
mouth scramble. The final
score was 5-0.
In the final game, South
Huron defeated Mitchell 1-0
in a one-sided game, despite
the close score. Sandra
Gregus scored a beautiful
goal from a blazing Cronyn
shot.
The Panthers were sup-
posed to play Northwestern
on Thursday, but the field
was covered with snow and
the game had to be cancelled.
A new date had not been set
at press time.
This week the team travels
to Goderich for games against
Goderich and St. Marys.
