(photo/Nina Van Lieshout) By Nina Van Lieshout TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF EXETER — With the arrival of The Critter Barn Pet Shop last month on Exeter's Main Street, owner Dianne Saunders also brings to the commu- nity over 25 years of expe- rience working in the busi- ness. "I've worked all over Ontario," says Saunders, including supervising 37 stores for Aquarium Toronto. Saunders who lives in Strathroy, was told by rep- resentatives from the industry that in Exeter, "there was a niche to be filled." The Critter Barn, com- pletely renovated by Saunders' husband Jim into a comfortable brightly coloured wooden store, is a family affair. Saunders' 14 -year-old daughter Jayme-Lynn works at the store and is a huge help, her mom says. Saunders also gives credit to April, another staff member who has helped her for years. The Critter Barn is a "full line pet store." Saunders says "aquariums and reptiles have been popular." So far, Saunders says the community has been supportive and Saunders says The Critter Barn is planning to be equally as supportive, promoting edu- cation and community involvement. Saunders says if a school would like to buy tanks and animals, they will receive a discount. The Critter Barn is hav- ing a Grand Opening Oct. 28 -Nov. 3. OPP issue an impaired HURON — Huron OPP kept busy Sept. 29, issuing an impaired to the driver of a 2002 Dodge Dakota traveling in an erratic manner on Huron Street in Exeter. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was displaying obvi- ous signs of impairment by alcohol. The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and transported to the detachment. The driver provided two breath samples that were analyzed and found to be more than double the legal limit of 80mg of alcohol. A 44 -year-old man of South Huron will attend Exeter Provincial Court Dec. 21, facing one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and one count of driving a motor vehicle with more than 80mg of alcohol. He will also face one count of failing to have an ignition interlock system under the Highway Traffic Act as the vehicle he was operating did not have one. G.I.C. The elegance carries t rough the covered entry and beyond the double - height foyer. To the right, a charming study occupies the turret's ground floor, with french doors to a veranda. Nearby is a powder room with a coat closet opposite. The great room, complete with a fireplace flanked by built-in entertainment units, flows seamlessly into the bayed -out nook, where a window seat overlooks the back garden. No cook will feel isolated in the kitchen, separated only by countertops and an eating bar from the great room and nook. The U-shaped counter configuration will save steps, and a capacious pantry provides always -needed storage space. Completing this well- designed space is a convenient prep island. Also on the main floor is the laundry room, with a handy chute from upstairs and built-in boot shelves. Access from the double garage to the kitchen leads through a mud -room with a useful bench for changing damp or grubby footwear. The design shows regard for the streetscape — the garage's double doors hidden, with two partly mullioned street -side windows giving passersby the illusion of lived-in space. On the second floor, the master bedroom features its own private balcony and a walk-in closet. The four -piece ensuite occupies the turret, giving this space the air of a spa retreat. The second and third bedrooms share a spacious four -piece bathroom with a laundry chute. Over the garage, linked to the main house by a sloping walkway, is an unfinished bonus room. With slanting ceilings and a dormer window, this space would make an ideal play area or studio. This home measures 79 feet wide and 50 feet, seven inches deep, totalling 2,673 square feet, plus an unfinished basement.
