Honoured at the induction celebration at Peter Clark Hall at the university were wrestler Zoltan Hunyady, football players Bogart and Jack Raithby as well as for- mer multi -sport athlete Carl Jackson. Along with the individ- ual inductees, the 1992 OUAA champion men's Golf team was also rec- ognized. Bogart, a former teacher and coach at South Huron District High School, was a member of the 1955 and 1958 Guelph champi- onship teams playing offensive halfback and defensive safety. In 1958, he won the league scoring title and led Guelph to victory in the President's Cup. During his career at Guelph, he was named Player of the Week on two occasions, was co -captain of the football team in 1959 and was a member of the Athletics' Council in 1957 and 1958. Bogart said he was convinced to attend the University of Western Ontario in 1954 although he had planned to attend Guelph. After a short time at UWO, Bogart said he made the switch to Guelph. Although not eligible to play in the 1955 sea- son, Bogart was ready in 1956 when Guelph got a new coach in 1956 with the introduction of Tom Mooney who Bogart said he liked. "He was young and energetic." said Bogart. Although Guelph didn't have much tal- ent, Bogart said they had a lot of energy and spir- it. Mooney was a tough coach, according to Bogart who said Mooney tried to install an attitude that the players would take their dislike of the coach out on the opposition. Bogart said the team used to run up and down a hill at the uni- Ron Bo gart veristy so many times "frontwards, back- wards, and sideways," that he still can't look at since it has too many bad memories. The key to his game, said Bogart, was speed, with records held in the 100 and 220 yard track and field distances. "I had a good relation- ship with Tom," said Bogart who said the coach told him he could have played as a run- ning back with any American college. The induction week- end was a great time, said Bogart who attends every year since there is usually someone he knows being inducted. "It was one of the nicer ones we've had," said Bogart of the week- end.
