(photo/Scott Nixon) BANNOCKBURN — Close to 300 peo- ple took part in the annual Bannockburn Fall Hike Sunday as new interpretive metal signs were unveiled as part of the new `Walk a Mile' self - guided tour to promote physical fitness and environmental protection efforts. Funding partners and media repre- sentatives were among those who attended the launch of the project, ini- in tiated by the Friends of the Bayfield River and the Municipality of Central Huron as part of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) 60th Anniversary `Sixty Projects for Sixty Years' effort. The `Walk a Mile' trail information project was funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion Communities in Action Fund, the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, the Municipality of Central Huron, the Municipality of Bluewater, the Huron Stewardship Council, the Bayfield Ratepayers' Association and the Huron County Clean Water Project. Hikers walked the trail at Bannockburn Conservation Area - near Bayfield and Brucefield - and praised the informative new metal plaques. Many people walking on Sunday also expressed interest in the four new high-technology ways to enjoy the wildlife area. The new features are: • A professionally -narrated, self -guid- ed tour which is now available via www. abca. on. ca for download onto an iPod or MP3 audio player. • An audio compact disc (CD) which can be played on a portable stereo with the audio tour. • Some hikers walked using a pedometer showing how far they walked and how many calories they burned. • Hikers also made use of a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking device which indicated their location and proximity to the new signs. For information on how to borrow any of these four high-tech ways to find out more about this important ecosys- tem phone the ABCA at 235-2610 or 1- 888-286-2610. The funding partners behind the new self -guided tour were honoured at a brief ceremony Sunday afternoon before the beginning of the walk. "We appreciate the support and vision of our funding partners who POLICE BRIEF Collision results in charges BLUEWATER — Huron OPP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Airport Line just south of Kippen Road in Bluewater Sept. 23 at approximately 3:30 a.m. The driver was operating a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier when they feel asleep, leaving the road as a result and traveling along the ditch until the vehicle struck a tree on the west side of the road. I AM PLANNING ON MAKING IT AGAIN THIS YEAR AS MY MEMORIES OF IT ARE VERY SPECIAL. IT IS A GREAT TREAT FOR TOAST ON A COLD WINTER MORNING. THE CONSISTENCY IS THICK AND QUITE SIMILAR TO APPLE BUTTER. IT HAS SUCH A WONDERFUL FLAVOR. To STERILIZE JARS FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE BOX OF NEW CANNING JARS. ALWAYS BE SURE TO USE NEW SNAP LIDS. IF FOR SOME REASON YOUR LIDS DO NOT SNAP DOWN WHEN COOLING, YOUR APPLE BUTTER HAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND YOU SHOULD USE IT UP RIGHT AWAY. KEEP IN THE FRIDGE ANY OPENED JARS. WOW!
