Crediton Wi meeting on Oct. 18
CREDITON - The regular meeting
of the Crediton Women's Institute
was held on Sept. 20 at the home of
Noella Triebner. Members enjoyed
a glass of punch on arrival and pres-
ident Alma Davey was in charge of
the business meeting. Plans were
made for the Fall Rally Oct. 2 in
Dashwood and the London Area
Convention Oct. 5.
Farmers feed cities
Noella and Rose Mary Neeb
chaired the program with the motto
of "Farmers Feed Cities." Noella
readAutumn in the Country and
Rose Mary read Fourteen Carrot
Trivia, (the growing and processing
of carrots) and Women in
Agriculture.
Allison Neeb gave highlights of her
Junior Optimist trip in July to
Nashville. The guest speaker for the
evening was Dianne Masse. She and
her husband Michael own the Masse
Sweet Corn and Pumpkin Patch near
St. Joseph's.
Dianne told in detail of all the jobs
they do from the planting of the
seeds in the spring until harvesting
of all their produce in the fall. She
brought samples of their crops
including painted pumpkins and fall
decorations. Each member took a
sample of the produce home with
them.
The roll call was "what did you
grow in your garden?" Every one
brought an article from their gar-
den. Tickets were sold on a draw
and each person had the choice of a
product to take home with them.
The next meeting will be Oct. 18.
Church News
The regular meeting of the UCW of
Zion United Church will be held
Thursday night, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. The
guest speaker will be Dianne Masse
talking about the "Pumpkin Patch."
The roll call is to bring an item for
the Food Bank. All ladies are wel-
come.
On Sun., Oct. 29 a service of
Baptism will be held at the morning
church service and in the evening its
the Annual Beef Dinner at the
Crediton Hall beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Plans are underway for updating
the church directory with photos
being taken on Nov. 6, 7 and 8.
More information can be obtained
from Brandi Shaw or Lorie Van
Valkengoed.

Grand Bend students landscape
Landscaping project— The Grade 5/6 class at Grand Bend Public School recently took
on a landscaping project in front of the school, planting a garden of perennials, complete
with woodchips. Grade 5/6 teacher Samantha Richards says local businesses and individuals

Youth needed to participate in singing group for Dec. 31

organist played several tunes on the
organ before the church service com-
menced led by Rev. Judith Ritchie who
lit the Christ candle.
Everyone sang Rejoice In the Lord
Always and Rev. Judith gave words of
welcome and people passed the Peace.
The call to worship was led by Rev.
Judith responsively and the opening
prayer was read in unison. The open-
ing hymn What A Friend We Have in
Jesus was sung.
Rev. Judith gave the announcements.
Beatrice Dawson gave a minute for
missions entitled "Positive
Thinking "
Rev. Judith lit the red
candle for peace and read the Epistle
Lesson James 5:13-20. Rev. Judith
told the children a story and talked
about all the different flags on the
communion table namely; Israel,
Canada, United States, China, South
Africa, Gana, Argentina, Russia and
Afghanistan. The Lord's Prayer was
repeated in unison. The hymn Teach
Me, God to Wonder was sung.
Psalm 124 was read responsively.
Rev. Judith read the Gospel Lesson,
Mark 9:38-50. The choir sang Let's
Enjoy God's World Together, accompa-
nied by the organist Jean Hodgert.
The title of Rev. Judith's message
was "Despite Fear." Everyone sang
the 3rd verse of What A Friend We
Have in Jesus and read the
Affirmation of Our Faith, "A New
Creed."
Melonie Miller and Virginia Warwick
received the offering and everyone
sang Grant Us, God, The Grace and
Rev. Judith led the offertory prayer in
unison.
The presiders for the celebration of
Holy Communion were Rev. Judith and
Dennis Pym. The Communion hymn 0
Jesus, Joy of Loving Hearts was sung.
Rev. Judith led in the Communion
prayer responsively. The servers of
Communion were Anne Kernick,
Melonie Miller, Judith Parker and
Virginia Warwick. The prayer after
Communion was read in unison.
Everyone sang the closing hymn
Guide Me 0 Thou Great Jehovah and
Rev. Judith gave the commissioning
and pronounced the benediction.
Everyone sang the choral benediction.
Announcements
"I would like to thank all the folks
who supported the Covenanting ser-
vice this past Sunday evening. UCW
made and served bread, supplied pre-
serves and set up
breakers for more
bread. The choir
prepared special music and led the
two worship services; the worship
committee planned, set up served and
coordinated the efforts of people tak-
ing part. Busy members of the congre-
gation attended both the morning and
evening services. I am grateful. It is
an evening never to forget. Thank
you." Rev. Judith.
