to qualify to
become members
of the SHDHS golf

Denomme led the
way with a score
of 96 under chal-
lenging course
conditions.
Denomme was
followed closely by
Tristen Caldwell
with a 104 and
Alana Hodgert
also scored well to
finish in third
position.
In the boy's divi-
sion, Scott
Muirhead had an
injury so he
received an
exemption for his
exemplary golf in
recent years.
On the course,
David Muller led
all scorers with an
Ashley Denomme
impressive round
of 75 while Justin
Anstett and Scott
McGregor finished
tied for third after
firing rounds of
81.
Garrett
Alexander finished
one stroke off the
pace with an 82
and led all junior
age golfers.
This past
Tuesday, both golf
teams went to
Goderich for the
Huron -Perth tour-
nament.
The girl's squad
played slightly
below their capa-
bilities; however,
they still scored
well enough to
continue on to the
next round and
the WOSSAA
finals.
Denomme once
again fired the low
round for the
ladies.
The boys, led by
Muirhead with a
79, played well
under windy
course conditions
to finish in a tie
for fifth place
among 11 teams.
This finish
enabled them also
to advance to the
next round which
will determine the
WOSSAA champi-
onship on the
demanding St.
Thomas Golf and
Country Club.
Golf coach Jeff
O'Brien said all
golfers this year
exhibited true

Fury win 2-0
EXETER — The
Exeter Fury defeated
Delhi 2-0 Sunday at
home in a battle to stay
out of the basement of
the second division.
The game was played
in adverse weather con-
ditions and in front of a
sparse crowd but both
teams still had some
good offensive chances
throughout.
Exeter had the strong
wind advantage in the
first half but failed to
capitalize resulting in a
scoreless first stanza.
The best scoring
chance for the Fury
occurred when Ryan
Carroll crossed a long
free kick to the far post
where Darren Marziali
headed the ball off the
cross bar.
Delhi was robbed on a
shot from in close that
was batted away to
keep the teams tied.
The visitors came out
strong in the second half
and tried to take advan-
tage of the wind by fir-
ing some long shots that
just missed the net.
Most of the action
seemed to be in the
Fury end but once in
awhile Exeter managed
to move up the field by
using short passes on
the ground.
About 20 minutes into
the second frame Ryan
Carroll was able to grab
a loose ball and fire a
low shot past the keeper
to give the Fury a 1-0
lead.
Delhi had a chance to
tie the game on a break-
away but the striker
pushed the ball too far
ahead and the ball was
cleared away to pre-
serve the shutout.
Carroll notched his
second goal of the game
by pushing the ball over
the line after Pete
McAllister's header
landed at Carroll's feet.
The 2-0 win keeps
Delhi in the bottom of
the division.
With two games
remaining the Fury still
have a chance to move
up in the standings with
a game Tuesday night
against London City who
are five points ahead.
Exeter finishes the
season Sunday night in
London against Marconi
in a game rescheduled
from last week.
"We battled hard out
there today and we
aren't ruling out catch-
ing City either," team
spokesperson Jason
McFalls said.
