The Times Advocate, 2006-09-27, Page 9Wednesday, September 27, 2006 TIMES—ADVOCATE 9 Share ideas with Partners -in -Learning GRAND BEND — For the second year in a row, area residents will be able to take part in several different courses at Southcott Pines in Grand Bend through the Partners -In - Learning program. Moderators of the courses were introduced Sept. 20 at an open house at the Southcott Pines club- houses where the courses will take place. All of the four courses available through the program start today and run until Dec. 6. "Tip -toeing through the Carolinian Forest" will be led by Casey vanden Bygaart Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until noon. It will explore the geog- raphy of the area from Toronto to Grand Bend and into the southern United States. "Architecture Then and Now" runs Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and will be led by Ian Young. "Unsung Canadians," also running Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. will be moderated by Reg Finkbeiner and will explore some of the lesser known Canadians in history. The fourth course of the program is "Socrates Cafe," which will be led by Bill Metcalf and John Merkies, in a series of group discussions on a wide variety of themes. The courses are conducted in groups of not more than 20 people who meet for two hours a week for 10 consecutive weeks. The cost for each course is $35 with a $10 annual membership fee. Harvest luncheon in Centralia By Mary Peterson CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT CENTRALIA - On Sun., Sept. 24, the congregations of Centralia and Zion West United Churches joined in worship at Zion West in celebra- tion of their church anniversary. Mr. Les Hills was guest speaker and led worship. Mr. Hills welcomed everyone and lit the Christ candle. Margaret Hern played the accompaniment for the opening hymn, "Be Thou My Vision." The children's hymn was "Tell Me the Stories of Jesus." Their story was about "Welcoming Others." Upcoming celebrations There were several announce- ments about upcoming celebrations and activities. Happy birthday to Rikki Lee Skinner and Samuel Tindall! Communion will be celebrated during regular worship at both churches on Sun., Oct. 1. Zion West invites everyone to join wor- ship at 9:45 on Sundays and Centralia welcomes everyone at 11:30 a.m. Thanksgiving is a special joyous time on Sun., Oct. 8. Centralia United Church celebrates their anniversary service on Sun., Oct. 15. Guest speaker will be Wendy Noble, Assistant Minister at Exeter United Church. Centralia UCW will host a harvest luncheon at Centralia United Church on Sat., Oct. 28. Centralia's annual turkey supper will be held on Sun., Nov. 12 at South Huron Recreation Centre beginning at 4:30 p.m. There will also be a silent auction.
