8 TIMES—ADVOCATE Wednesday, September 27, 2006 Women's Institute members enjoy Provincial Conference By Jane Dearing HURON SOUTH WOMEN'S INSTITUTE LONDON - Five mem- bers of the Huron West Women's Institute and seven from Huron South, attended the Provincial Conference in London two weeks ago. The Conference was held at Fanshawe, and the facili- ties were wonderful. Early birds took in a play at Stratford Theatre, called Much Ado About Nothing, and were returned in time for din- ner. We had a sensational reception opening at 3 p.m. which included boun- teous refreshments, along with displays from each district, competition dis- plays as well as tables open for sales. Dinner was served and our evening program fol- lowed. Dignitaries representing every level of Institute were present including Federated Women's Institute of Ontario presi- dent, Federated Women's Institute of Canada presi- dent as well as seven past Provincial presidents and the Canadian W.I. repre- sentative for Associated Country Women Worldwide to which every Institute member auto- matically belongs. The Flag bearing cere- mony was followed by opening formalities, wel- coming over 200 women for a fun and fabulous, W.I. weekend. The keynote guest speaker for the weekend was Richard O'Brian M.a.A.Sc. and he did an exceptional job of keeping us all laughing with a dash of motivation and a generous helping of pro- found advice. He spoke to the Conference theme of T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More) and got us all thinking about where we are leav- ing the next generation if we continue to "bail them out" of their own conse- quences. Workshops Saturday was filled with workshops including, painting, stone art, skin care and make up, gar- dening - presented by London Middlesex Master Gardeners, Dr. Bell (Doctor of Naturopathy) with offices in London and Exeter, a presentation from F.W.I.O on the Rural Ontario Sharing Education (R.O.S.E.) program, as well as organization, with Helen Melbourn of Toronto. Saturday concluded with a mystery bus tour which had buses touring the sev- eral counties that make up the hosting London Area. As if on cue, everyone then poured into Kirkton Hall for a beautiful ban - POLICE BRIEFS Break and enters in Bluewater BLUEWATER — On Sept. 15 thieves broke into a residence on Bronson Line in Bluewater during the day. Your level of LDL (the so-called "bad cholesterol") shouldn't be too high but also the ratio between your total cholesterol and your HDL (the "good cholesterol") is a good indicator of cardiac risk. This ratio should be less than 2.5 if you have a high risk. If you are routinely administering eye drops (those with glaucoma do so regularly), it is important to instill the drops without touching the eye area with the dropper tip. This wit reduce the risk of contamination of the drops. It is also important to follow your doctor's orders on frequency. Try not to miss any doses. In the world of oral contraceptives, there is a gentle movement away from the "21/7" dose format to an every day dosing schedule with no one week rest. Daily administration of the pill results in no menstrual periods which many women find very convenient. Hair Tice is a common occurrence in September. Our pharmacists are familiar with this problem and can advise you on proper treatment of this annoying and often embarrassing affliction. jjlil,li, li 4illlG v Huron Apothecary Ltd. •pA Phone 235-1982, PHARM 440 Main St. Exeter ASSIST "YOUR HEALTH CARE PHARMACY" xi quet. The evening entertain- ment was Bob Heywood of Huron County, a favourite for anyone who has had the pleasure. Understanding many beliefs Sunday morning com- mittee member Anne Innes and her committee, presented an exceptional interfaith service which left many with a further understanding of several women leaders from vari- ous countries and faiths. Not many dry eyes remained as stories of these exceptional women unfolded to an eager con- gregation. We learned of the majesty and greatness of Indira Gandhi of India, Mother Teresa, of Yugoslavia, Shahina Siddiqui of Pakistan and Eva Olsson of Hungary, and the rightness of each of their beliefs. Especially as it always offered room for others, and their indi- vidual beliefs as well as it should be.
