Farm surplus dwellings reviewed
By Nina Van Lieshout
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
LUCAN BIDDULPH — Farm surplus
dwellings were the main topic at the Lucan
Biddulph Sept. 18 council meeting.
Planner Ted Halwa attended council, fur-
ther discussing the criteria in which farm
severences are applicable.
The criteria which was already reviewed in
a prior council meeting states the lot size
must be a minimum of one hectare and must
be a part of the farm consolidation.
After a house is severed and the barn is
attached to that parcel there will be no con-
tinued use of livestock in the barn allowed.
Also mentioned was minimum distance
separation which should already be in effect
for all properties.
This will also apply for any new properties.
Halwa will rework some of the amend-
ments for tomorrow night's meeting.
Not many changes will be made.
A public meeting will be scheduled in the
near future. The date is unknown at this
time.
Group homes
Group homes were also briefly discussed
with Halwa.
An amendment will be reworked stating
that the definition of a group home will start
with five people.
Grant submitted
The Lucan Community Memorial Centre is
submitting an application for a Trillium
grant for its kitchen.
Council passed a request to design and
draw specifics for the kitchen to be ten-
dered.
The renovation is expected to cost about
$100,000 with the equipment.

Clean-up day planned this Saturday
GRAND BEND — The Ausable
Bayfield Conservation Authority
(ABCA) is inviting watershed resi-
dents to become members of a
new Friends of the Old Ausable
Channel group to take part in
community clean-ups, informa-
tion nights and other events.
The group's first event is an Old
Ausable Channel Clean-up Day
Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Interested volunteers can meet
at the Huron Woods Clubhouse or
Southcott Pines Clubhouse.
Appropriate clothing such as
pants and long sleeve shirts are
recommended. Necessary clean-
ing equipment will be provided
(gloves, garbage bags, etc.).
The Old Ausable Channel was
part of the original Ausable River
until two diversions at the end of
the 19th century separated this
body of water from the current
Ausable River which flows into
Lake Huron.
The channel runs through
Pinery Provincial Park and car-
ries only local drainage. It may be
evolving from a river -like ecosys-
tem to a pond -like ecosystem.
The river is an important habi-
tat for many species at risk and is
in need of protection.
It also provides valuable recre-
ation opportunities such as
canoeing and fishing for many
local residents.
A free thank you barbecue
lunch is scheduled to follow for
clean-up participants.
The event is part of the Great
Canadian Shoreline Clean-up this
September.
If you are interested in taking
part in the clean-up or becoming
a member of Friends of the Old
Ausable Channel call Kari Killins
at 235-2610 or toll-free 1-888-
286-2610, or e-mail
kkillins@abca. on. ca to have infor-
mation on group events sent to
you.
