Masonic fish fry in Granton

GRANTON - The annual Fish Fry spon-
sored by the Granton Masonic Hall Board at
the Kirkton Woodham Community Centre
was very popular on Sun., Sept. 17.
Granton -Wesley UCW
Granton -Wesley UCW Unit 1 met at the
Wildwood Care Centre in St. Marys on
Thursday afternoon, Sept. 14 to be with a
member, Amelia Jameson. There were 14
present, including Unit 5 members who
joined in for the occasion. President
Carolyne Walden opened the meeting with
a call to worship, starting over, and prayer.
The next meeting will be Oct. 5 with a
potluck lunch at the church at noon. The
general UCW meeting is scheduled for Oct.
10 and an open house of nativity scenes at
the church is planned for Nov. 24-25.
Carolyne Walden continued the program
with reading Smiles, Chuckles and Belly
Laughs - Common Courtesy and a contest of
the names of pies. Margaret Spence had a
humourous reading about the memory of
seniors and Ina Harlton read a portion from
Marlo Thomas's book. Refreshments of
cake and ice cream were served and thanks
expressed to Wildwood Care Centre for
accommodation.
Granton -Wesley United Church
At Granton -Wesley United Church on
Sun., Sept. 17, Michelle McBurney lit the
Christ candle and Andrew Herbert gave the
minute for mission. Lay pastor Paul Vollick
led the service with a message entitled the
Power of the Tongue. The scripture read-
ings were from Proverbs 1 and
James 3. The ministry of music was
"Three Things I Promise", sung by
the choir.
St. Paul's Anglican Church
At St. Paul's Anglican Church in
Kirkton on Sun., Sept. 17, Rev.
Dalice Sim celebrated the Holy
Eucharist. The message was about
being led by God's Holy Spirit of
truth and love and having the
courage to forgive. Mary Blackler
read the lessons.
Clandeboye WI
Clandeboye Women's Institute
members and friends met at the St.
James Anglican Church parish hall,
Clandeboye, on Wednesday evening,
Sept. 13. president Betty McIntyre
welcomed everyone and chaired a
short business meeting announcing
several upcoming events. Marilyn
Dixon convened the program on
agriculture and introduced the
guest speaker Evert Schaap of
Exeter from E -VERT ENERGY.
Numerous slides were shown per-
taining to renewable energy, con-
cluding that it is available, affordable and
should not be wasted. There was also a dis-
play of products promoting the use of
renewable energy.
The speaker was thanked by Carolyn
Hardy. Refreshments were served by
Barbara Carter, Betty McIntyre and Carolyn
Hardy during the social time which fol-
lowed.

GRAND BEND — The second
annual end -of -life film festival, 'The
Big Picture' is once again being held
Sept. 28 at the Grand Bend Area
Community Health Centre
(GBACHC).
The event is sponsored by the
Grand Bend Rotary Club and hosted
by VON Pallative Care Volunteer
Program.
Showing in the afternoon is
"Cure," about an 11 -year -old -boy
with AIDS, while the evening per-
formance will see "One True Thing"
with Meryl Streep, William Hurt

Scooter stolen
BLUEWATER — Huron OPP are
asking for the public's assistance
after a handicap scooter was stolen
recently from Sugar Bush Road in
Bluewater. Parties found a four
wheel handicap scooter covered
behind a trailer. Thieves stole the
scooter, valued at $3,000.Call the
