UC ministry is reaching out
EXETER - The September
meeting of the UCW was held
on Tuesday evening with 29
ladies and one guest present.
The meeting was covered
with the autographed table
cloth and a clear bowl filled
with water and lighted can-
dles and lilies.
Grace Pym welcomed every-
one and was the soloist with
Marjorie Johns accompanying
on the piano. Grace Pym gave
the theme and call to worship
on "Hands."
Muriel Parsons read the
scripture Matthew 22:34-40
and gave the meditation "The
Puppy." Grace Pym led in
prayer. Shirley Kerslake
introduced the song "Reach
Out To Your Neighbour"
which everyone sang.
Muriel Parsons and Pat
Ballantyne received the offer-
ing with prayer by Shirley
Kerslake. Pat Ballantyne
introduced Rev. Sheila
Macgregor of Exeter who
spoke on ministry to the
elderly. We watched a video
"Minnie Remembers."
Shirley Kerslake thanked
Rev. Sheila and presented her
with a beautiful mum and a
gift envelope. It was a very
informative talk.
Grace Pym spoke a few
words about reach out,
reflect, ponder, remem-
ber, relate, write it down.
Everyone sang "Reach
Out" and this brought the
worship service to a close
which was very interest-
ing.
Business
Carolyn Johns our president
started the business part of
the meeting with the ladies
giving one another a hug.
Carolyn thanked the worship
committee "Mission Outreach
" namely Grace Pym, Muriel
Parsons, Shirley Kerslake and
Pat Ballantyne.
The UCW Purpose was
repeated in unison. Anne
Kernick, the secretary took
the roll call which was
answered by "naming a chari-
table organization you have
supported for the first time."
The minutes were read and
adopted. The correspondence
was read and dealt with.
Joan Skinner gave the trea-
surer's report. The standing
committee gave their reports.
The visiting committee was
named: Group U - Kay
Hodgert, Group C -
Jo-anne Rowe,
Group W - Helen
Weston. Our ladies
are entertaining at
the Blue Water
Rest Home on
Wed., Sept. 27.
Joyce Fulton gave
the council report. The
Fall Rally will be held at
Parkview UC Stratford Oct 24
commencing at 6:30 p.m.
Carolyn Johns mentioned
about the United Church cal-
endars.
The UCW Prayer was said in
unison. Carolyn Johns
thanked the lunch committee
namely Marilyn Vanenbus-
sche, Lorraine Alexander,
Jean Hodgert, Kay
Cunnington. They had pre-
pared very delicious desserts
and beverages. There were
many dishes left at the church
after the catering. Please pick
up your dishes in the next two
weeks or they will be disposed
of.
Clergy provide essential service
HENSALL — Queensway's
Volunteer auxiliary met Tues.,
Sept. 5 to preview the
September calendar and
schedule their availability for
various programs. At noon
the members of South Huron
Ministerial held their lun-
cheon meeting at Queensway.
Pastor Elly Van Bergen,
United Church minister at the
Varna and Goshen United
Churches and pastoral care
volunteer at Queensway
briefly addressed the group as
did Retirement Home director
Julie Grimminck. These dedi-
cated clergy provide a very
essential service for all of the
area nursing and retirement
homes.
Pastor Elly Van Bergen led a
meaningful memorial service
for residents and family mem-
bers Wednesday evening Sept.
13 as we honoured the lives of
residents who have passed
away during the past three
months. Bill Gibson was the
volunteer organist for our ser-
vice.
Hensall Presbyterian women
provided assistance and
prizes at bingo Monday after-
noon. They will be sponsor-
ing the Monday afternoon
bingo games for the month of
September.
Due to unforeseen circum-
stances the trip to St. Jacob's
Market had to be rescheduled
for Thurs., Sept. 28 so family
members of residents still
have time to notify Carol at
519-262-2830 ext. 225 if they
would like to accompany their
loved one on this trip.
Volunteer Edna Deitz,
assisted at Breakfast
Group Tues., Sept. 12 as
the group of eight chat-
ted and reminisced over
eggs, sausage, toast,
watermelon, and bottom-
less cups of coffee and
tea.
Residents also benefit-
ed from massage with
Lori Burt R.M.T., music
therapy with Lisa
Stewart, manicures,
games, exercises, cur-
rent events and one to
one visits throughout the
week.

POLICE BRIEF
Stolen truck in Mount Carmel
MOUNT CARMEL — On Sept. 16, Huron OPP
responded to an abandoned vehicle at the Catholic
Church in Mount Carmel. The vehicle, a 1993 GMC
Sierra, gold and black in colour was reported stolen
from London one week ago. The vehicle was located
with damage to the interior and outside of the vehicle.
