The Times Advocate, 2006-09-13, Page 15Wednesday, September 13, 2006 Exeter Times—Advocate 15 Agricultural Society to meet in Hensall By Liz Sangster HENSALL CORRESPONDENT HENSALL — Come out and enjoy our fall meal at the Hensall Drop -In on Sept. 21 at the Hensall United Church. Lunch will be served at 12 noon. Following lunch we will be having Kim Poulton from the Canadian Hearing Society speak and do hearing tests on individu- als. Come on out for the fellowship and great food. We welcome all local individuals to this luncheon held the third Thursday each month. Cost is $5 per person. At Carmel Presbyterian Church Tracy Whitson-Bahro was the minister with Joyce Pepper playing the organ. The offering was received by Frank Varley and Al Hoggarth. At Hensall United Church the service began with an organ prelude with Rob Cameron playing the organ. Welcome and announcements were followed by the passing of the peace. We listened to readings from James 2, Psalm 125 and Mark 7. Les Hills was the min- ister. Les spoke on "Spiritual Sense." Les also had a special story for the children. Several hymns were sung. Jayne Fragiskatos looked after the children. The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. The service closed with commissioning, benediction and choral amen. A social time followed the service. The church council meets on Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The sympathy of the community is sent to Mary Anne Van Horne and family on the passing of her brother George, and to the family and friends of Mrs Harvey Keys, a longtime Hensall resident. The Hensall South Huron Agricultural Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Thurs., Sept. 14 in the auditorium of Hensall Arena. Volunteers are needed for the fair. All interested individuals are invited to attend this meeting. On Fri., Sept. 15 there will be a door to door, "Food Bank Scavenger Hunt" from 7 - 9 p.m. spon- sored by St. Peter's Lutheran Youth Group. A11 items collected will be donated to Blessings Store in Zurich. Shawn and Denise Fields were mar- ried on Aug. 26 in Crediton with reception in Exeter. Anyone wanting to register for the Blue Water Zurich Skating Club can do so Sat., Sept. 16 at the complex from 10 a.m. to noon. The sub -division of Ken and Martha Munger at RR 2 Zurich near St. Joseph held their annual Fish Fry on Labor Day Weekend for all neighbours. Due to rain the event was held at St. Peter's Church Parish hall. Jerome and Carmel Sweeney enjoyed a bus trip to Montreal, Quebec and Gananoque from Sept 4 - 8 on a Pilgrimage to; Cap de La Madeline, St. Anne de Beaupre and St. Joseph Oratory. We also went to many other interesting places. The weather was sunny and warm the whole week. The Western Fair is now in London until Sept. 17 with lots of things to do and see for both the young and old. Gates open at 11 a.m. each day. The Agriculture meeting will be held at the Hay Township Hall on Thurs., Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. On Sept. 12 Father John Kulathinkal was installed as the new pastor at St. Boniface Church in Zurich by Father Peter Keller of the Huron - Perth Deanery, and our associate pastor Father Peter Poel with members attending from the clus- tered parishes of St. Joseph and Grand Bend. A social evening was held in the hall downstairs afterwards. Happy Birthday wishes go out to Tim Klopp on Sept. 12. St. Boniface Catholic Women's League meeting will be held on Tues., Sept. 19 beginning with Mass at 6 p.m. Followed by a pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Everyone is welcome. The groups of Bridget Groot and Audrey Smith are in charge. Monday Night Ladies Bowling League started on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. Anyone who still wants to bowl can do so by calling Barb at 519-236-4923 or come out to the lanes on Mon., Sept. 18 and join the fun. The Ladies Auxiliary of Blue Water Rest Home will be going to the Region Number 13 meeting in Mitchell on Wed., Oct. 4. The cost of registration and lunch is $8. GEIGER FINANCIAL 519-236-4784 519-857-3846 NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CLOSE HIGHWAY The Council of the Corporation of the Township of Lucan Biddulph has determined that a portion of Breen Drive road allowance lying west of Concessions 4 and 5 known as "Saintsbury Line", legally described as Part of the Road Allowance between Lots 20 and 21, Concession 4, in the Township of Lucan Biddulph, now designated as PARTS 1, 2, 3 and 4 on Reference Plan 33R-16594 is a redundant highway and it would be proper to close the said highway pursuant to the authority of Section 34 of The Municipal Act. Council intends to pass a By-law closing Breen Drive at its meeting on Thursday, September 28, 2006 after providing notice of the intended road closing for a period of four consecutive weeks in the local newspaper. Persons wishing to make representations, presentations or written or verbal comments may do so by attending the public meeting immediately prior to the matter being determined by Council at the Council Chambers to be held at 33351 Richmond Street, Lucan, Ontario at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2006.
