Police warn of scam LAMBTON — Lambton OPP report they have received complaints from cit- izens who have been duped by a company offering huge financial gains by participating in their distribution scheme. Indications are that those most often defrauded are senior citizens. Seniors look at this type of business as a great way to earn extra income from home. A company identified as Advanced Distribution Systems, P.O. Box 124, Palmerston, Ont., has been advertising by flyers sent in the mail offering participants up to $1,000 per week for stuffing envelopes. Here is how it works: A consumer receives the flyer in the mail offering a large income for little effort. The company indicates you can work from your home and will receive payment for each envelope you stuff. All the consumer has to do is send the company a cheque or money order in the amount of $20 for the $500 per week income package or $25 for the $1,000 per week income package. The cheque or money order is then sent to a post office box. In the most recent cases, it is P.O. Box 124, Palmerston, Ont. The company indicates they will send you a "start-up kit" and you're hi business. Investigation shows few people actually receive a "start-up kit," while oth- ers receive nothing. The "start-up kit" may only be a flyer or a self- addressed stamped envelope, if anything at all. Beware that this company has used other names as well, such as: • Advanced Distributing; • Mid Central Distribution; • Tri County Distributing; • Direct Distribution. Several police agencies are receiving complaints regarding Advanced Distribution Systems. It is believed there are several other victims out there who have not reported the fraud to police. Although $25 seems like a small amount and not worth complaining about, consider you are one of possibly thousands who have been duped. Contact your local police if you have been scammed by this type of offering. An investigation is ongoing into the actions of Advanced Distribution Systems and those responsible.
