Grand opening for Grand Bend's new Home Hardware
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
GRAND BEND — The
owner of Grand Bend's Home
Hardware Building Centre
says he is pleased with his
new business's first month.
Frank Teahen, who also
owns a Home Hardware in
London, says things have
gone well so far. The store
opened Aug. 6, holding its
grand opening celebrations
last weekend.
Teahen has wanted to open
a Grand Bend location for
five years but says he didn't
get the go-ahead until last
year. Construction on the
new 14,500 square foot
showroom just north of
Grand Bend on Highway 21
took about four months.
"We're really glad to be
here," Teahen says, crediting
his London store manager
Dave Kirk for overseeing the
start up.
"He's done an excellent
job."
Kirk says the fact the store
sells lumber and has a deliv-
ery service will be beneficial
for Grand Bend residents,
who previously had to go to
Exeter or Forest for such ser-
vices.
Also, whatever is out of
stock in the Grand Bend store
can be shipped quickly from
Teahen's London store, Kirk
says, adding the new store's
location on the busy Highway
21 provides easy access for
customers.
Teahen, who has
owned his London store
for about 12 years, has
24 employees at the
Grand Bend location,
and will probably add
to that. He says the new
store is something the

WOW, IT IS SEPTEMBER AND WE HAVE TO GET BACK TO
THINKING ABOUT FALL SCHEDULES, SCHOOL, WORK ETC.
HOLIDAYS ARE A DISTANT MEMORY! As I ENJOY THE FALL
WEATHER I REALLY ENJOY THE FACT THAT I CAN USE THE
KITCHEN OVEN AGAIN FOR GREAT MEALS OR
ACCOMPANIMENTS TO A BBQ,D MEAT. THE FOLLOWING
RECIPE IS ONE I MADE WHILE EXPERIMENTING, ON MY
HOLIDAYS AT THE COTTAGE WE GO TO. WE PICKED A COOL
DAY AND WITH THE MOUNTAIN OF FRESH VEGETABLES WE
ALWAYS HAVE ON HAND I MADE THIS WONDERFUL RICE
CASSEROLE. I LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU CAN DO WHAT
EVER YOU LIKE FOR A VEGETABLE COMBINATION.
LAYERED RICE
1-28 oz can of diced tomatoes
4 cups chopped vegetables (onion, celery, zucchini,
cauliflower, broccoli, carrot etc. )
I cup wild rice mixed with long grain white rice
or brown rice
I tsp basil
I cup water
I tomato sliced
In a well greased casserole dish place half of the diced
tomatoes. Put half of the chopped vegetables next. Sprinkle
with rice and seasoning. Pour water over the mixture and put
the other half of chopped vegetables. Put the tomato slices
over the vegetables and cover with remaining diced tomatoes.
Cover and bake at 350 for I-1/2 hours. If desired you can
cover with a layer of cheddar cheese for the last 15 minutes
and leave uncovered.Very good!!

There are medication patches to help smokers
stop. There are patches to reduce angina, some
control severe pain and others provide hormone
supplementation. We hope that soon there will be
a patch to control the symptoms of Parkinson's
disease. It has been approved in Europe but not yet in Canada.
Medical researchers seem to do studies on everything. One was
done recently on the interval between pregnancies. The best interval
is between 2-5 years. Intervals shorter or longer than that appeared
to increase the risk of preterm births, lower birth weight and smaller
babies generally. It's a good family planning tip.
If you go into hospital and your medications are changed while
there, ensure your doctor or pharmacist check which drugs you are
to continue with and which to stop once you are home. Sometimes,
hospitals carry only certain drugs in any one drug class and what
they use there may be similar to another drug you already take.
If you've had an interest in seeing what research is being done in
various diseases around the world, there is a website that will guide
you through it. Just type in the disease you are interested in and it
will lead you to all the clinical trials going on. The site is:

BUNGALOW WITH RUSTIC CHARM Plan No. 5-3-656 Unpainted wood trim and gables with cro s -bracing, plus stained wood siding, lend this well-
planned three bedroom bungalow an air of rustic charm. The welcoming covered porch is flanked by wooden pilasters set on stone bases. The foyer,
which contains a handy coat cupboard, boasts a vaulted ceiling and reveals a glimpse of the great room through an archway where decorative columns
echo the porch's design. To the right of the foyer is the dining area, partly open to the great room, which also has a vaulted ceiling. The fireplace will
make this room a focal point for family activities during the cooler months. In summer, when access to a covered patio and the back garden beyond
prove their value, this room will be ideal for entertaining and al fresco meals. No cook will ever feel isolated in the spacious kitchen, also open to the
great room, which enjoys access to a covered deck, perfect for the barbecue. Both guests and family members will love hanging out at the raised eating
bar that separates the kitchen from the breakfast nook. The L-shaped counter configuration promises to save steps, and a large walk-in pantry provides
extra storage. Convenient to the kitchen is the laundry room, with a coat cupboard and two-piece powder room with linen closet nearby. Connecting to
this area is the double garage, cleverly set at an angle to save space on the lot. The master bedroom boasts a window seat that looks out over the back
garden, as well as access to the patio and a well -lit make-up area. The generous en suite features a soaker tub as well as a shower staff, and double
basins will ease the stress of morning ablutions. A large walk-in closet will be roomy enough for even the most committed fashion mavens. The second
and third bedrooms both have access to a split bathroom, featuring double basis and a make-up table. Nearby are a second linen closet, as well as a
storage space. Ceilings throughout are nine feet high. Totalling 2,126 square feet, this home measures 83 feet, eight inches deep, and 68 feet wide.
Plans for design 5-3-656 are available for $636 (set of 5), $721 (set of 8) and $775 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 79/9 Prov. Sales Tax. Also
