Back to School Safety:
Summer is nearly over and it's time to hit the books
again, but make sure you and your kids or grandkids
know the dos and don'ts of back -to -school safety.
Kids If it's your first day at a new school, make sure
you know your teachers full name and how to get to the
principal's office in case you need help.
Parents Make sure you know the phone number and
complete address of your child's school, as well as the
principal's name and number.
Kids Wait for your bus or ride in a designated spot or
a safe place. Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop
and for the driver to tell you its okay before you get on.
Parents Tell your child to stay at all times on the
school bus and to cross the street at least 10 feet in front
of the bus when they get off.
Kids If you have a cell phone, make sure you
turn it on right after school so your parent or
guardian can reach you if they need to.
Parents Make after-school schedules and
carpooling arrangements early and always
have a back-up plan. Kids shouldn't walk home
from school alone.
Kids Play fair and play safe on the play -

including helmets, knee pads, reflectors etc. for kids who
ride their bikes or skateboard to school.
Kids If someone you don't know approaches you on
school grounds or on your way home, don't talk to them
and, if possible, let an adult know.
Parents Don't buy your child clothing or bags with
their names on them since strangers can use this infor-
mation against them.
Kids If your teacher says or does something that
makes you feel funny, tell your parent or guardian right
away.
Parents Make sure you meet the child's teachers and
