Terry Fox donation
The Exeter and area community has already collected
over $500 for the Terry Fox Run supporting cancer
research. Co-ordinator Ann DeVries, right, says the
Terry Fox T-shirts have been popular, raising over
$200 and counting. They also received a boost from
Ondrejicka Elevators who earned $284.75 during
wheat harvest season by making hamburgers and giv-
ing away drinks, but collecting donations, given to

STANLEY
EAST —
Peter Walden
is looking to
be elected as
councillor of
Stanely East
in this fall's
municipal
election.
Walden
first moved to
the area in
1962.and
went to
school in
Clinton before
attending a
Business
Finance program at
Fanshawe College.
He manages the Zurich
feed mill for the Hensall
Co-op.
One area Walden said
he wants to encourage is
local sports participa-
tion.
"I'm very keen on sup-
porting that. It's very
high on my priority list,
being involved with that,
specifically the soccer
and the baseball in our
area."
Walden said the area
needs more participa-
tion, including more par-
ticipation of parents and
more training of kids to
be referees as well as
having more kids using
their
coach
volunteer time to
younger children.
" A n d
fundraising
for local
sports for
more facili-
ties," said
Walden.
Looking at
the munici-
pality as a
who l e ,
Walden says
he thinks it
is doing
well.
"It's a
pretty
diverse
municipali-
ty...I think
they have done a good
job and they need partic-
ipation...I think they've
improved and I think
they could do more
improving.
"We need to work with
some more cohesion and
we need to use our facili-
ties more...we need to
pool our resources in our
community centres and
continue to try and pull
people together as a
team, instead of all these
different separate inter-
est groups.
"One of my goals would
be to try to facilitate or
help the cohesion in the
municipality."

MP Paul Steckle endorses Dion bid
VANCOUVER
— Huron -Bruce
MP Paul Steckle
last week gave
his support to
Stephane Dion
in Dion's bid to
become the next
Leader of the
Liberal Party of
Canada.
In a release,
Steckle said,
"Since he was
first elected as a
federal MP a
decade ago, I
have worked
with Stephane
as both a col-
league and as a
personal friend.
Aside from his
obvious sinceri-
ty, integrity and
intelligence, I
have found
Stephane to be
a committed
member of the
House of
Commons with
a deep devotion
to the philoso-
phies and val-
ues of Canada
and the Liberal
Party.
"His reputa-
tion is beyond
reproach and

these reasons
and more that I
am proud to
offer my sup-

Stephane Dion
as he seeks the

Canada."
Steckle added,
"In the weeks
and months
ahead, I will be
working with
the Dion leader-
ship team to
help raise the
overall calibre
of debate in the
leadership
process. I will
push for greater
attention to
rural affairs,
especially on
those areas
addressed by
the 33 recom-

IN THE HEAT NOTHING BEATS AN ICE CREAM DESSERT! THE
FOLLOWING RECIPE IS VERY EASY TO ASSEMBLE AND VERY
TASTY. YOU CAN HAVE IT FROZEN IN YOUR FREEZER AND
SERVE IT UP TO COMPANY IN A JIFFY!
ICE CREAM TREAT
Crush filled chocolate cookies in a food processor till fine
crumbs (at least 30)
Mix 1/2 cup melted margarine
1-1/2 cup crushed crumbs
Put in a 9 by 13 pan lined with parchment paper (for easy
removal when serving it up) and bake 8-10 minutes at
350. Cool.
On the cooled base put the following layers:
Layer of slightly softened cherry vanilla ice cream
Layer of cookie crumbs
Layer of mini semi -sweet chocolate chips
Layer of softened vanilla ice cream
Layer of mini semi -sweet chocolate chips
Refreeze and serve from freezer with a drizzle of chocolate
syrup over the top! Wonderful!
Variation: use chocolate and strawberry ice creams, or use
caramel drizzle with butterscotch ripple and pralines and
cream ice creams.
Hint: I used ice cream in a two litre boxed carton and then
opened it up and sliced it on the side to get nice layers of ice
cream.
