The Times Advocate, 2006-08-23, Page 26Wednesday, August 23, 2006 Exeter Times -Advocate 25 Huron 4-H exchange experience of a lifetime HURON — Members of the Huron County 4-H were given the opportunity this summer to participate in a 4- 1-1 exchange with members of the Rangeland 441 club, at Spruce View in Alberta. Ten Huron County members and two chaperones while in Alberta last month toured Drumheller, a local feedlot housing 9,000 head of cattle, visited Olds College, experienced the scenic areas of the Mountains, includ- ing Banff and hiked up Johnson Canyon. A day was spent at the Calgary Stampede, visiting behind the scenes to view the Chuck wagons and meet the owners, outriders and other members of their team. The group also went water sliding at Lake Sylvan and boating, tubing and water skiing at Dickson Lake. Many barbecues were also held during the eight day stay. The exchange was organized by the Canadian 4-H Council. The travel costs were paid by the Department of Canadian Heritage of the Government of Canada. Ten members from Alberta travelled to Ontario this month from Aug. 7 to Aug. 15, touring several facilities in Huron County. The group visited Lynn Farms Feedlot, White Bean Processing Plant at Hensall Co-op, IceCultures and Klaver Dairy Farm, Robinson Maple Products, Todd's Sheep Operation and had dinner at St. Helen's Hall pre- pared by Lila Rintoul and some Mennonite families. The group also went to Goderich as well as visiting Walton to see the site of the TransCan Motocross and Niagara Falls. Ontario 4-H Ambassadors Tammy Fischer and Erica Murray put together some great activities at a Wind-up barbecue. "The members have learned many new things about Canada and have developed new ties with people from another community," says Huron County 4-11 chaperone Jacquie Bishop. Huron County members have been wonderful ambassadors of our community when visiting and hosting. It has made for a very memorable summer vacation for 2006 as much excitement is shared amongst the group as they talk about their experiences," Bishop adds. The Huron County 4-H members were pleased with several Huron County businesses that supported this trip, making it possible. Blue Water Rest Home to host a barbecue tonight Wed., Aug. 23 By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH CORRESPONDENT ZURICH - Congratulations to Claire and Margaret Deichert who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Hall with an Open House in the afternoon. Several friends and relatives attended followed by a family din- ner. Their actual Wedding Anniversary date is Aug. 25. Butch and Sharon Hoffman of Hensall and Wilfred and Stella Hoffman of London celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary's with a party celebration on Saturday afternoon at the Pavilion in Hensall. Congratulations to Marty and Julie Becker who cele- brated their 25th Wedding Anniversary on Aug. 8. Wedding bells rang for Brian Gingerich and Rianne Laye on Sat., Aug. 19 at the Crediton United Church. Dinner and reception was held in Exeter. Brian is the son of Stu and Linda Gingerich of RR 2, Zurich. Susan Wildfong spent the past two weeks in Barrie at the home of her daughter Amy and Rob Burk. She was helping out with new grand baby "Chelsea Ann" who was born on July 24. A Bedour family reunion was held in the club house of the Meidinger Apartments on Aug. 20. Audrey Smith and her sister Wanda Mattice of Kitchener returned from a vacation in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where they visited with sister-in-law, Rhonda Dodge. They also spent five days in Calgary with Tom and Gail Smith. There was a good turnout for the Leon Bedard Memorial Golf Tournament on Sat., Aug. 19 at the Bayview golf Club. A social time and supper was held at the home of Leon's parents Larry and Monica Bedard in Zurich. A Denomme family get together was held at the home of Cheryl and Martin Gelinas on Aug. 19. Residents at Blue Water Rest Home are having a bar- becue on Aug. 23 in the evening Audibly Awesome will entertain. A barbershop quartet will entertain on Friday, Aug. 25. Patty will take some on the bus for lunch at J.D's in Bayfield. Call Patty at 236-4373 if you can go along to help with the residents. At 2:30 p.m. Bell Ringing with Pam is scheduled. On Sunday, Aug. 27 everyone is invited to an Open House from 2-4 p.m. to help Clarence Gascho celebrate his 90th birthday. Soloist Esther DeBoer will entertain on Mon., Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m. Bingo games will be played on Tues., Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. with the help of Community Living, followed by tea with Marion. On Wed., Aug. 30 Mary Dow and Murray Christie are coming at 2:30 p.m. A Family Reunion was held at the home of Ursula Regier in Highland One Sub -division near Grand Bend on Sat., Aug. 19. with people coming from various places. Steve and Shirley Marenick of Windsor spent a day last week with her sister, Carmel and Jerome Sweeney along with their five daughters and families for supper. Lottie Grenier and Gwen McKellar were among those who took part in the "Actisest" Senior Games held in Hamilton last week playing Euchre. Joe Regier and Bill Coleman played Shuffleboard. Congratulations to Ben Gingerich and Brianna Sickels who were married Aug. 5 at Port Blake. Ben is the son of Don and Sharon Gingerich of RR 2, Zurich. A Buck and Doe was held for Dana Thiel and Aran Beattie on Aug. 11 at the Zurich Complex. She is the daughter of Ken and Donna Thiel of Zurich. The couple are being married in September. Candace Becker arrived home safe and sound recently from spending three months doing mis- sionary work in San Ignacio Belize. Candace is the daughter of Joe and Nancy Becker of Dashwood. Please Note Change in Route - Once again the Wrench Benders are having their Friday Night Cruise. They are leaving the Zurich ball park at 7 p.m. They will be using the same route as last year except they are going to split the group in half and have half going the opposite to the other. This means that you could have cars going through each town at two dif- ferent times. The cars are going through Hensall, Exeter, Crediton, Dashwood and back to Zurich. Hope to see lots of people out to watch the cruise. Anyone wanting 150th Anniversary tickets, books or pins can get them Bean Festival day at the Information Booth beside the bank. Visitors at the home of Leo and Irene Hoffman last week were Mary Ducharme (Hoffman) of London, Sister Angela Theresa Hoffman of Chatham and Brother Edgar Hoffman of Toronto. All attended a family 40th Wedding Anniversary in Hensall. Monday Night Ladies Bowling League will start on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. If you would like to bowl call 236-4923. Kelly and Jeff Webster and boys recently enjoyed a week at a cottage near Sandridge. On the way home they visited Kelly's uncle in Huntsville who gave them a guided tour of the highlights in Algonquin Park. A surprise 65th Birthday Party was held for Cathy Evans -LaPorte Sunday afternoon at the LaPorte home in St. Joseph. The birthday girl really was surprised.
