It was nice to see a lot of people there from Zurich on Aug. 3, as tickets were sold by the Arena Foundation as a fund raiser for the evening. Some went in a limo. Congratulations to Bill Watson who celebrated his 95th birthday on Aug. 3. A fam- ily get-together and supper was held outdoors at his home on July 30 with children and spouses attending, along with grand and great grandchildren. Happy Birthday wishes go to Adeline Denomme at the Rest Home who is 102 years old on Aug. 13. Little Maia Delaney Stephan, daughter of Mark and Annette Stephan (nee Regier), was baptized at St. Boniface Church recently. The Stephans are here on holidays from Tokyo, Japan visiting family members. Little Corrissa Pauline Cyr daughter of Mike and Colleen was Baptized at St. Boniface recently. St. Boniface Parish bean festival quilt tickets and money are to be returned to the drum at the back of the church as soon as possible or given to Julie Becker, ready for Aug. 26. Anyone with Ladies Auxiliary Quilt tickets or money for the rest home is asked to return them to Hilda Lansbergen as soon as possible. There will be a Parish Picnic at St. Peter's Church (St. Joseph) on Sunday, Aug. 20 following 10:30 a.m. Mass. Quilt tickets are also asked to be returned for the Bean Festival draw. I (Carmel) enjoyed going to Windsor for three days last week by bus to visit with my mother and several friends and relatives. Adam and Stephanie Gascho and family have recently moved into the former home of Earl Oesch on Edward Street. On Aug. 13, a family outdoor get-together and barbecue supper was enjoyed by several friends and relatives to help celebrate Denver's second birthday. Kevin Byrne from Nova Scotia recently visited with his parents; Teresa and Jack Byrne at R R 2, Zurich and attended his mother's (80th) birthday party on July 29, at the home of Denise and Joe. A nice birthday supper and family fun day was held at the Southcott Pines home of Beth and Joe Boyle to help Beth's sister, Carrie Eybergen, celebrate a birthday Aug. 8. Be sure and get your tickets this week for the "Pop -Star Tribute Concert" that will be held Aug. 19 at the Bluewater Complex in Zurich. Doors open at 1 p.m. with showtime at 2 p.m. You can pick up tickets at Erb's or call 519-262-3250. Playgroung News On Aug. 8 the kids had a slumber party day and wore their p.j.'s. They played games and watched a movie. Wednesday was mucky, messy madness day. Thursday they went on a small field trip and wore red clothes for their activities. Friday was wet and wild day. They had lots of fun playing water games outside, with pizza for lunch. All the children had a great time with leaders Natalie Laporte, Megan and Elizabeth. The Ladies Auxiliary meeting was held at Bluewater Rest Home on Aug. 1 with a nice musical program by Martin Gelinas and Jeff Miller. Following lunch and a social visit the meeting began with president Carmel Sweeney who read the minutes of the last meeting. Hilda Lansbergen gave the trea- surer's report and Mary Ducharme sent out nineteen cards. Patty Groot updated us on the monthly events. There are a lot of interesting things for the residents to do and we are asked to help whenever we can come out. Anyone wanting to continue going to the Ritz Villa in Mitchell on Oct. 4 for the annual region #3 meeting/workshop is to call Carmel at 519-236-4702 for a ride. Cost: $8 for the day with lunch. Our booth selling quilt tickets for the Bean Festival will be in front of the Zurich Pharmacy. Helpers are still needed that day. Please call Hilda at 519-236-4149. Thank -you to the new girls coming out on Tuesday mornings to do the tuck -shop cart. If you are interested, as more are still welcome, call Della at 519-236-4173 or Bridget at 519-236-4743. The monthly birthday party will be held Aug. 17 at 2:30 p.m. A Buck and Doe was held for Bryan Durand and Diane VanBakel on Aug. 11 in Varna. Bryan is the son of Ken and Barb Durand of RR 2 Zurich. The couple are planning to be married in September. Happy 40th birthday to Shelley Geoffrey, August 10. Congratulations to Eveline Haag and Jorn Steunebrink who were married on Aug. 5 in Mt. Carmel with dinner and reception at Hessenland. Eveline works at the food store in Zurich. The St. Boniface Parish Community Chicken BBQ supper was a big success. Thanks again to the hard work of those from the Knights of Columbus and their wives. On Aug. 6, Cliff and Delores Gingerich celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary, with an outdoor party, planned and hosted by Val, Chris, Krista, Cory and Sarah. Cliff and Delores were married Aug. 7, 1971 on the lawn at Cleve and Margaret Gingerich's farm. Congratulations to Gerard and Mary Ducharme on their 50th wedding anniver- sary, Aug. 4. A Mass of thanksgiving was celebrated at St. Boniface Church by their son Father Gary Windsor followed by a social and dinner at Hessenland. Hilda Lansbergen, Montana Riley, Amy, Chelsie and Wynter Fatheringham trav- elled to Jackson, Mississippi with their horses on July 20 to 30. Montana and Chelsie rode in the National Barrel Horse Association Youth World championships where over 1400 youth and teens took part. "Congratulations" to Chelsie for making it to the finals! Be sure to attend "Breakfast in the Park", Sat., Aug. 19, 8-11 a.m. at beautiful St. Joseph Historical Park. Last year was so much fun with the combination of good food, historical displays, artifacts, music and a festive atmosphere as the community celebrates the past and present. Your goodwill offering is used to promote heritage and culture as the Historical Society keeps alive the stories of our past. Lewis and Marlene Gingerich spent a few days in Barrie with Lloyd and Dorcas Tate (daughter) and grandchildren Emma and Justin. We all went to Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania for five days, visiting cousins and sight-seeing in the area. ZURICH NEWS Over 180 people golfed and had dinner Aug. 12 at Exeter Golf Course to raise money in honour of the late Cindy Forrest who died July 15 at South Huron Hospital from a brain tumour. The event raised $10,000 for the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
