HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Times Advocate, 2006-08-02, Page 1616 Exeter Times -Advocate Wednesday, August 2, 2006 Grand Bend Gazebo opens The Grand Bend and Area Community Health Centre held a Gazebo Open House July 28.The Gazebo, used mainly for Adult Day Centre clients and staff was funded by the Grand Bend Community Foundation (GBCF) and built by LarryWhiting, Rick McGuire and Ron Peters. From left to right are Community Health Centre representatives Larry Whiting and Cindy Maxfield,Adult Day Centre representatives Mardelle Hunt and Pat Kading,Adult Day Centre client and ribbon cutter Lloyd Mudge, GBCF board chairperson Hank Krech, GBCF marketing and communications chairperson Pat Morden and co-ordinator of midwest- ern Exeter and Grand Bend Adult Day Centres Tammy Antaya.The GBCF has donated $445,000 to the Grand Bend community since 2002. They have also formed another group, the Grand Bend Community Improvement Coalition made up of the GBCF, Grand Bend service clubs and the Municipality of Lambton Shores.They are working on four pro- jects over the next five years totalling $ I million — a skate park and a children's playground on the beach being led by the Grand Bend Optimist and beach enhancements and a water improvement project led by the Grand Bend Rotary Club. (photo/Nina Van Lieshout) Down home clogging enjoyed at Queensway HENSALL — Bob Heywood and his Gospel music drew residents, their fami- ly members and friends to the air conditioned comfort of Queensway's activity room Sun., July 30. What a great way to spend an afternoon, listen- ing to Bob share his faith and wonderful gift of music! Residents celebrat- ed the July birthdays Thursday evening with entertainment by Marie Flynn and The Huron Strings. Marie also brought along several dancers who did some down home clogging for the audience. Kippen United Church women pro- vided assistance and prizes for the Monday afternoon Bingo game. They have been with us each Monday after- noon in July. Kay Mock, volun- teer assisted at the Breakfast group pro- gram Tuesday when eight residents dined on ham, eggs, fruit, toast and bottomless cups of coffee and tea. Rev. Bill Ward of Exeter Anglican Church led worship Tuesday afternoon with Belva Fuss as volunteer pianist for the service. Residents also bene- fited from pastor Elly Van Bergen's visitation and pas- toral care Tuesday. Francis Kinsman organized the euchre players Wednesday after- noon when a good number of euchre enthusiasts gathered for some competitive games in the Unit Dining area. Residents also bene- fited from massage therapy with Lori Burt R.M.T. on Monday and music therapy with Lisa Stewart on Friday. Exercises, games, word finds, manicures and friend- ly visits completed Special music at joint service in September By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - In the absence of Jean Hodgert, Agnes Bray played the piano before the service com- menced. Rev. Judith Ritchie lit the Christ candle and led in the call to worship responsively. Rev. Judith gave words of welcome and every- one shook hands. The introit was sung, and Rev. Judith gave the announcements. Everyone sang the hymn of praise "Come and Find the Quiet Centre." Rev. Judith lit the red candle for peace. The opening prayer was read from Voices United. The Affirmation of our Faith "A New Creed" was read in unison. The hymn "Morning Has Broken" was sung. The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. The choir sang "The Light Of the World Is Jesus" accompanied by the pianist Agnes Bray. Psalm 24 was read responsively. Rev. Judith read the Scripture reading Numbers 18:9, 18-19 and the Gospel Reading Matthew 5:13- 16, and the title of her meditation was "Cooking With God." Everyone sang "Nothing Can Trouble." Fred Delbridge and Sharon Passmore received the offering. Rev. Judith gave the offer- tory prayer and prayers for the people. The closing hymn "To Show By Touch And Word" was sung. Rev. Judith gave the commissioning and benediction. Everyone sang the closing chorus. The grace led by Samantha Ritchie was sung and everyone enjoyed a pot luck lunch, some 40 people attended. Personals Several people from this area attended the visitation for the late Clayton Ross at the Rodges Funeral Home, St. Marys. Barry and Melonie Miller and Sarah, Glenn and Dorothy Jeffery and Bill and Rhoda Rohde attended the Memorial Service at Kirkton United Church and the Fellowship and Lunch at the Rec Centre in Kirkton on Tuesday. Quite a number of people from this area attended the visitation for the late Bob Johns. Sympathy is extended to his three daughters, son in-laws and grandchildren; his brother Stan and his sister Sylvia Bullas. Bob used to live on the Elimville Line just south of the Thames Road - Elimville Church.
