Exeter's Shoppers Drug Mart held a one-on-one Smoking Cessation
workshop July 25.The free 15 to 20 minute consultations were designed
to encourage people to quit smoking, even challenging them to choose a
quitting date. Information and nicotine replacement samples were also

Proceeds to improvements from fish fry

HENSALL CORRESPONDENT
HENSALL - At Carmel Presbyterian
Church Tracy Whitson-Bahro was the min-
ister. Tracy's message was "Sowing Seeds,
Jesus Style". Joyce Pepper was the organ-
ist for the ministry of song. The offering
was received by Al Hoggarth and Ken
Pollock.
The Hensall and Community Horticultural
Society Flower Show was held on the
evening of Mon., July 24 at Hensall United
Church. Linda Hodgins was the judge for
this annual event. Despite the dry weather
there was a large variety of flowers, plants
and vegetables on display. Bill Gibson and
Les Hills tied for first prize followed by
Sharon Munn and Liz Sangster. Susan
Finch from Sun Shade Nursery was the
guest speaker and illustrated her talk with
a great variety of hostas and grasses. Liz
Sangster introduced Susan and also
thanked her and presented her with a gift.
President Luanne Phair reported on the
changes made to the downtown gardens.
Door prizes were donated by Lucielle
Beer, Sheila Davenport, Jayne Fragiskatos
and Rita Van Wieren. Lunch was donated
by Luanne Phair and Joyce Pepper. Betty
Simmons and Lillian Beer served the
refreshments. We are looking forward to
our fall auction with Pirie Mitchell and Erik
Jacobson of Parkway Gardens. Volunteers
are needed for lunch and door prizes for
the fall meeting.
Hensall Union Cemetery Memorial and
Decoration Day was held on July 30 with
Mr Les Hills officiating. The service began
with a musical prelude with Piper Roy Ellis.
Bob Bell welcomed everyone to the service.
Les Hills gave the call to worship. Hymns
were sung and scriptures read. The ser-
mon was entitled "What Grace". Matt
Tremain of Grand Bend sang two solos
unaccompanied. Bill Gibson introduced
Matt who he heard sing in a church in
Grand Bend recently. Larry Uyl of Hensall
Legion Branch 468 spoke briefly and Stew
Taylor placed a cross by the Legion plaque.
Roy Ellis was the piper for the service. Rob
Cameron was the organist for the service of
song. Chairman of the Board Bob Bell read
the Honour Roll. The service closed with
benediction and a musical postlude. A
large crowd attended this special service
and viewed the repairs recently made to 27
monuments and foundations.
The Hensall Community Development
Action Committee and the Hensall Fire
Department will be presenting an "all you
can eat" fish fry on Sun., Aug. 13 from 5
p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hensall Arena. Adults
$12, children $5. Only 300 tickets will be
available. Proceeds are for community

Glad Days in Zurich onThurs., Aug. 10 to Fri., Aug. 11

ZURICH - On Sun., July 23, Larry and
Debbie Denomme hosted a gathering on
the Home Farm for the direct descen-
dants of Anthony and Adeline Denomme
and their families, which included 90
members.
Wagon rides, games and activities
entertained everyone and a corn and pig
roast, complimented by pot luck salads
and desserts made a delicious meal.
New babies to the family included Troy
Langendoen, Hanna Jones, Robyn
Denomme and Ava Lynn Sproule.
Congratulations to newly engaged cou-
ples Paul Rau and Elsa Fraser and Matt
Denomme and Tamara Lee.
Besides the many locals, family trav-
elled from Collingwood, London, Lucan,
Kitchener, Orangeville and Port Franks to
attend with a special surprise visitor,
Pam Regier arriving late in the afternoon
from New Brunswick. They returned in
time to attend another exciting event, the
wedding of nephew Jarrett Jeffrey to
Michelle Finkbeiner in Mt. Carmel and
Exeter recently.
Anne Primrose of Grass Valley,
California is spending some time with her
sister, Laurene Corriveau in Zurich. They
attended the 90th birthday of brother
Jack Broughton of Atwood. Also Jack and
his wife Mary celebrated their 50th
Wedding Anniversary at Listowel's Golf
and Country Club on Sun., July 23.
Bob and Linda Hendrick and girls
Leeann and Julie returned home recent-
ly following a vacation to Alberta. While
there with the Seaforth and District All
Girls Marching Band, they attended the
Calgary Stampede. The marching band of
which Julie is a part performed seven
times after their appearance in the
Stampede Parade including the
Saddledome and Spruce Meadows eques-
trian centre. On their only day off the
band travelled to Lake Louise and Banff.
The Hendrick family extended their holi-
day by visiting with Linda's sister Janet
and Richard Regier and family all of
Calgary. They attended the baptism of
Stephen Daniel McLelland grandson of
the Regier's. The rest of the time they
stayed in the Regier cottage in Canmore
surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. The
day trip to the Columbia Icefields was an
exciting experience.
Congratulations to Lloyd and Helen
Otterbein of Exeter who celebrated their
65th Wedding Anniversary at St. Peter's
Lutheran Church Hall on Sun., July 30
with an Open House that was attended by
many friends and relatives. A family din-
ner was also held at the Church Hall.
A Buck and Doe was held for John
Regier and Catherine Love on Fri., July
28 at the Complex in Zurich. John is the
son of Charlie and Joan Regier of RR 3,
Zurich. The couple are being married in
October.
A Buck and Doe Dance was held for
Brad Brown and Julie Koricina at the
Complex in Zurich on Saturday, July 29.
Brad is the son of Bob and Nancy Brown
of Zurich. The wedding is in September.
A Buck and Doe was held for Tara
Mass and Ben Dykstra on Fri., July 28 in
Clinton at the arena. The wedding will
take place in September. Tara is the
daughter of Wendy and Mike Masse of
RR 3, Zurich.
Tickets are available for the family St.
Boniface Parish Chicken Barbecue to be
held on Sun., Aug., 13 from 5 - 6:30 p.m.
from Knights of Columbus members,
John Jacob (519-262-2013), at the back
of the church after Masses or from Lori at
the church office.
The 14th Annual Mother and Daughter
weekend was a lot of fun of July 29 and
30 in Zurich, hosted by Sharon Sims of
London and daughter Rosi Rothenberg.
Saturday afternoon was spent scrapbook-
ing with 15 of us at Memory Lane. A first
lime at scrapbooking for many of us. The
end result turned out great and a lovely
album was put together and given to
Marie Gelinas. After a delicious pizza
supper the games began until the wee
hours of the morning with a lot of laughs.
Following Mass on Sunday morning at St.
Peter's Blue Water several had brunch at
J.D.'s in Bayfield.
Playground News
Week three began with the children
camping. Tuesday was Magical Mysteries
Day, while Wednesday was space day.
Thursday the children enjoyed going on a
bus trip to Storybook Gardens in London.
Wet and Wild Day was on Friday with a
pizza lunch.
Glad Days will be held in Zurich on
Thurs., Aug. 10 and Fri., Aug. 11 at
either the Post Office or Tasty Nu Bakery.

ble.
Wayne and Nancy Lessard of Windsor
and son recently spent the weekend with
friends, Paul and Heather Klopp while
they took part in the M.S. Bike Ride from
Grand Bend to London for their third
time.
Farewell to Sidney and Viola Ramer
who moved to the Nith-View Home in
New Hamburg over the weekend.
Welcome to Elaine Cologoun who
recently moved into Maplewoods
Apartments.
A surprise family get together and pic-
nic supper was held for Maddy Smith at
her home on July 15 to help celebrate
her birthday.
The next Men's Breakfast at Erb's
Country Kitchen is Sat., Aug. 12 at 8:30
a.m. with speaker being, pastor Tim
Doherty of the Zurich Mennonite Church.

Our Lady of the Rosary Shrine at St.
Patrick's Church near Merlin will have
Mass from Aug. 13 to 22 each day at 11
a.m. and ends by 3 p.m. Bring a picnic
lunch.
A good time was had by those going on
a bus trip to 1,000 Island and staying at
the Hill Top Lodge last week. Thanks
again to Gwen McKellar for arranging
the trip.
Please keep saving your pop cans for St.
Boniface Fund Raising Project. Drop
them off at the home of Doug Debus in
Zurich, Mike Miller at St. Joseph Garden
Centre or John Jacobs in Hensall. Your
support is very much appreciated.
Roberta Robertson and her husband
Jack Fraser have returned to their home
in Vancouver after a two week visit in the
St. Joseph are. While here they spent
time with Roberta's parents Joy and Jim
Hogg and her sisters Lesley and John
Jeffrey and family and Debbie and Larry
Denomme and family. Jack and Roberta
were lucky to attend their great niece
Robyn Lynette Marie Denomme's bap-
tism at St. Peter's Church. Robyn is the
daughter of Cathleen and Bryan
Denomme. Day trips to Goderich,
Bayfield, London, Sarnia and St. Jacobs
kept everyone busy. A few days were
spent travelling to Chicago by train to see
a Chicago Cubs / Whitesoxs game at
Wrigley Field.
The I st Exeter Scouts were barbecuing hot dogs and hamburgers July 29 in the
Exeter Parkette during the Exeter Business Association's sidewalk sale days.
