Exeter ties
Southwest
EXETER — It was old fash-
ioned baseball at Alvin Willert
Field July 27 as the Southwest
Dodgers and the Exeter Co-op
Seniors met for the fmal time
this season.
Pitching on both sides was
good and neither team made an
error the entire game.
"It is very fun to watch and
play in a game like that," men-
tioned coach Jeff Keller. "Even
if we lost that game, I still
would have been very happy."
Scott Russell got the start for
Exeter and pitched a complete
game giving up three runs on
seven hits and three walks the
entire seven innings.
He also had six strike -outs.
"Scott was hitting his pitches
well," said catcher Dave
Gingerich.
Russell also helped his cause
at the plate, where he scored
the first run for Exeter after
reaching base with a base hit.
Gingerich, who had a good
night at the plate as well,
knocked in Russell with a base
hit with two out.
Exeter tied the game in the
bottom of the sixth.
Mike Seip started the inning
off with a single, and moved to
second on a walk by Mark
Laye.
Seip and Laye scored with
Gingerich's second hit of the
night, a double to centre field.
"I liked what I saw and I hope
we can carry this into the final
two weeks of the regular sea-
son and especially into the
weekend league championship
tournament," said Keller.
Exeter and Mitchell are co -
hosts this year of the tourna-
ment.
The weekend of August 25-27
will see all eight teams playing
at Alvin Willert Field in Exeter
to determine who will be
crowned the league champions
with schedules and times to be
determined.
Exeter's fmal home game of
the season is Aug. 10 at 8 p.m.

high one win total of 33.
The next tournament is a Mens

Senior Rookies
EXETER — The Exeter Senior
Rookie team hosted Centre -
Wellington to a double-header
last Wednesday and came out
on top in both games.
Strong bats led the team to a
strong first inning with hits by
Mitch Findlay, Devan Kowell-
Decman, Stephen Chappel,
Denver Homuth, MacCullum
Bourne, Matt Knight-Bedour,
Cody Merner and Drew Johns.
The final score was 10-3 for
Exeter.
In the second game, Centre -
Wellington was the home team
and heading into the final
inning, up by two runs, Exeter
needed to hit well.
Unfortunately, Exeter had only
one hit and scored no runs;
however the two -run lead held
up.
Centre -Wellington hit well but
was unable to score in their last
at -bat.
The Senior Rookie team played
the travel team of Junior
Rookies Monday night as the
Senior Rookies prepare for their
WOBA tournament Aug. 5-6.
4-1 loss for Exeter Fury
EXETER — The Exeter Fury
lost 4-1 at home Sunday night
against the Hispanos, who con-
trolled the play for most
of the game and didn't
allow the Fury many
offensive chances.
The visitors struck first
with a couple of quick
goals. With the second
one bad luck for Exeter
as the Fury keeper's
clearing attempt rico-
cheted off the charging
Hispanos player and
back into the net.
The Fury got on the
board when Matt Prout scored
into an empty net after a setup
from Ryan Carroll.
The momentum didn't last long
for the home squad as the
Hispanos struck again shortly
afterward with a goal of their
own.
The game was delayed late in
the first half when a prospective
Fury keeper was kicked off the
team bench and out of the field
of play by the referee for verbal
abuse.
Exeter came out in the second
half down 3-1. They kept trying
to make plays happen but
were turned away each
time by the Hispanos
defence.
Hispano put the game
away as a London player
found himself all alone
breaking in from the side
and buried the shot into
the corner for a three -goal
lead.
Craig Hern and Ryan
Ryan C
arroll
Ralph played solid games
on defense for the Fury,
according to team spokesperson
Jason McFalls.
"We have a few guys that are
trying to do too much with the
ball instead of using their team-
mates to move the ball up the
field," said McFalls.
"We need to let the ball do the
work for us and take a shot when
the opportunity presents itself,"
McFalls added.
The next action for the Fury is
Aug. 11 in Wallaceburg.
