Pastor Elly Van Bergen led with the call to wor- ship and a story on a great description of hugs and then hugs and handshakes were shared by the congregation fol- lowed by the hymn "He's Got The Whole World in His Hands." Pastor Elly intro- duced Ralph Topp from Exeter. Ralph played the keyboard. During the children's story time on "Attitudes" Elly showed the children how to build a boat from paper and everyone joined in on the song "Arky Arky". The sermon was entitled "Sink or Swim". Following the service grace was sung and every- one had a delicious pot luck lunch fol- lowed by calorie free desserts. A jar of jelly beans was sent around for the ages 0 - 25 to guess the amount and Cameron Laurie VARNA Seniors discuss nutrition EXETER — Throughout the month of July, keyboard musicians were Jean Hodgert, Josie Ryckman, June Dougherty, and Ruth Insley. Draw prizes were won this month by: Kay Cockwill, Martin Andrews, Isabel Kerslake and Ilene Rollings. 50-50 draw prizes were won by: Andy Dougall and Irene Blackwell. Audrey Haugh sang and played the keyboard on July 4. We held a penny sale on July 11. Glena Olcen showed her slides on July 18. Joanne from the Huron County Public Health Unit spoke about nutrition on July 25. Our upcoming entertainment for August will be: Epilepsy speaker, Bingo, Grant Ellison, Marlene Mathers and Sallows Gallery. Foot care appointments can be made by contacting 519-235-0258. The next appointment dates will be Aug. 1 and 15 and again on September 5 and 19. We are pleased to have hired a new cook by the name of Deb Wagler. In the month of July we had Edith Hodgins fill in when Deb was on holidays. We have been fortunate to have both of these cooks available to us in the busy summer months. We will be starting our regular fall activities in September and October. We would like to get a seniors yoga class going. Twenty-six - 50 years was won by Krista Kohnert and ages 51 plus was won by Linda Keys. Krista Kohnert was also sitting in the lucky spot. Linda Keys had the birthday closest to the picnic. Cameron Laurie was going to the dentist this week and Haley Linfield had stamps in her purse, Lesley Linfield is going on holidays this week so all three of them received prizes. Marg Robinson had the most but- tons on her clothing. Welcome to all visitors from far away especially to Nadine from Germany stay- ing with Krista and Len Kohnert for three weeks. The youngest one at the picnic was new baby boy Wesley George son of Haley Linfield. The children enjoyed a few games NEWS after especially the water balloons. A few adults also got cooled off. There will be no church at Varna Goshen for the month of August so please visit neighbouring churches. The community will be collecting for upcoming bride Kathy Van Bergen, daughter of Elly. Anyone wanting to give can drop off at the Varna Cornerstore . It is not too late to register for Vacation Bible School to be held from Aug. 8 -11. August 11 is ladies day out Mystery Tour. Meet at Varna Church at 10 am for car pooling. The day includes lunch out and afternoon tea and dessert and cost is approximately $15.
