By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH CORRESPONDENT ZURICH - Once again the Zurich Community Bible School was a big success with 260 children in attendance. The program on Friday evening was excellent. Dashwood Zion Lutheran Church's Vacation Bible School will be held from July 24 to 28. For more informa- tion call Elizabeth Trembulak at 519-237-3548. Tickets for the Elimination Draw and Dance on Fri., July 21 are still available for $20 at Erb's Country Kitchen or Schilbe's Hardware. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 but this does not include the draw for $1,000. Rick and Michele Smith and son have recently moved into the former home of Helen Walker near the Blue Water Rest Home. Pat and Cecile Dunches of North Bay recently spent a few days visiting with their grand- daughter, Missy and Jason Gingerich and daughter. Sharia Ciupak and daughter Shaelynn spent last week at Girl Guide Camp Keewaydin near Amberley. May we offer our sincere sympathy to the family and relatives of the late Joyce Willert. Also to the family, husband Jim and children Ryan and Scott, of the late Laurie Dickins (nee Forrester). Several relatives from the area attended the wedding of Wayne Debus in Stratford on Sat., July 15. Wayne is the son of Leo and Gail Debus. Nicole Wilson and two chil- dren from Calgary spent last week visiting with her parents Doug and Julie Debus. Annette Stephan and chil- dren of Tokyo, Japan are visit- ing family members in the Zurich area. Edgar and Ann Steinbach recently returned from a two and a half week vacation in North Dakota, Manitoba and Saskatchewan visiting friends and relatives. They also enjoyed visiting many areas of interest. The Annual St. Boniface Parish Community Chicken Barbecue will be held on Sun., Aug. 13 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Tickets are avail- able by calling the office at 519-236-4191 or John Jacobs 519-262-2013. A Surprise 75th Birthday Party was held for Audrey Smith recently at her home. Her children and rela- tives came from such places as Barrie, New Market, Calgary and Sault St. Marie. Mike and Vicki Ducharme and son Kris along with his friend Josh Brideau recently spent a few days camping near Sarnia. Welcome to town Mike and Alice Scott from Milverton who have moved into the former ZURICH NEWS home of Rob and Lisa Pedlar. The Pedlar family now live in the former home of Donna Merner on John Street Zurich. Blue Water Rest Home Update: Harvey and Friends are entertaining the residents at Blue Water Rest Home on July 19 at 6:30 p.m. Residents are having lunch at Erb's Country Kitchen on Fri., July 21. The Bell Ringers are com- ing to the Home on July 24 at 2:30 p.m. Games of Bingo will be played on July 25 at 2 p.m. with the help of Community Living. In the evening, the Lakeview Conservative Mennonite Choir will sing at 6:30 p.m. There are outdoor fitness classes being held at St. Boniface School on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. every week until August 29. For more informa- tion call Jeanette at 519-236- 4160. The Gerber Family Reunion was held on Sun., July 16 at the Zurich Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Come out and enjoy all the festivities at the Zurich Fair this weekend. If you wish to play hockey at the Zurich Complex and missed registration you can call Andra Brand at 519-237- 3889 as soon as possible. The Zurich playground is well underway with Courtney Overholt and Natalie LaPorte in charge. The children are kept busy with crafts, games, swimming and are having lots of fun. There will be some bus trips taken again this year. The weather was perfect for the approximately 200 people who attended Zurich Mennonite Church's Annual Outdoor Service at the Zurich Pavilion Sun., July 16. Following the service was a barbecue lunch. Special guests participating in the ser- vice were Pastor Clayton and Amy Kuepfer along with 25 members of their "Jane Finch Faith Community" in Toronto. Centralia United Church invites you to its barbecue Sun., July 23 By Mary Peterson CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT CENTRALIA - On Sun., July 16, Rev. Michelle welcomed everyone to worship at Centralia United Church. Worship was held downstairs where it was cooler and an enjoyable, more informal setting. Judy Mills played several requested hymns on the piano during the opening hymn sing. Rev. Michelle thanked Judy for sharing her musical gifts as pianist during worship. Rev. Michelle invited the children to the front, and they spoke about summer vacation. She showed the children several newspaper clippings about areas of the world where people were deal- ing with wars. She asked the children to remem- ber these people during the week and pray for them. The Gospel lesson was from Mark 6:1-13. Rev. Michelle followed this with her reflection entitled "Home Sweet Home - Do You Believe It?" There were several announce- ments that followed. Warm birthday wishes to Brent Caslick and Madalene Tasko on their upcoming birthdays! Combined worship continues throughout July for congregation members at Centralia and Zion West United Churches. Worship will be held at 10 a.m. at Zion West on 23rd and at Centralia United Church on July 30. Rev. Michelle's lemonade stand CENTRALIA NEWS Exeter's Elaine Tomlinson receives some Internet advice from Kyle Schwartzentruber, the Exeter Library's new Community Access Program (CAP) student, who will be on hand during library hours to give free Internet and computer training for anyone interested. Schwartzentruber, also of Exeter, is a Computer System Technology student at Fanshawe College and will be offering computer tips at the library until September.The CAP program is also available at the Kirkton Library. Call the Exeter Library at 235-1890 for more information or to make an appointment. Although July 23 was a very hot day, some of the children and their families participated in a walk- a-thon on the MacNaughton Trails.
