New equipment for Grand Bend Huron Country Playhouse
POLICE BRIEF
Driver learns speed hurts
EXETER — Huron OPP were conducting stationary
radar on Dashwood Line west of Ausable Line in South
Huron on July 3. The officer watched a motorcycle
attempt to pass a long line of vehicles. The 2002 Suzuki
was clocked in radar, traveling 186 km as it passed
five eastbound vehicles. The officer activated his emer-
gency lights and the motorcycle passed the officer's
position, failing to stop as directed. The officer stopped
following as he watched the motorcycle continue to
pass other vehicles dangerously. A different officer
observed the same motorcycle entering the Town of
Exeter at a high rate of speed. The officer activated his
emergency lights and again the driver failed to stop as
he drove by the officer. The driver attempted to run a
red light at the intersection at Dashwood Road and the
Main Street, north in Exeter. The driver attempted to
avoid a southbound vehicle in the middle of the inter-
section, losing control, the driver struck the curb and
flipped over the bike. At the time of the incident the
driver was wearing a helmet, shorts and flip-flops. The
driver, a 19 -year-old of Ayr was transported to Exeter
Hospital where he received medical attention for a bro-
ken collar bone, shattered left wrist, broken right hand
and many cuts, scrapes and abrasions. He will attend
Exeter Provincial Court Aug. 31, facing one count of
dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
cooking with memories
BY DEBBY WAGLER
WHEN I WAS FIRST MARRIED (OVER 24 YEARS AGO) I MUST
ADMIT I REALLY LIKED TO USE A RECIPE BOOK TO MAKE A
RECIPE, I WASALSO KEEN TO TRY IT OUT ON RANDY
AND I FIRST, BEFORE MAKING IT FOR GUESTS. NOW I AM
MUCH MORE ADVENTUROUS AS I OFTEN STRAY FROM AN
ORIGINAL RECIPE AND ADD FLAIR WITH COMBINATIONS OF
FOOD AND HERBS. I LOVE TO TRY OUT RECIPES ON GUESTS!
THAT IS WHY WHEN I MAKE A TRADITIONAL SALAD IT
OFTEN HAS A VARIANCE FROM WHAT IT MIGHT HAVE
BEEN YEARS AGO. HERE IS MY VERSION OF MACARONI
SALAD. DON'T FORGET TO CREATE YOUR OWN VERSION OF
BASIC RECIPES.
MACARONI SALAD
2 cups cooked macaroni
3/4 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup each of red and orange pepper
3-4 chopped green onion
2 hard-boiled eggs (optional)
3/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp. relish
1 tsp. mustard
2 tsp. sugar
I /2 tsp. pepper
1 /2 tsp. salt
Mix all ingredients together and chill. Serve with homemade
bbq hamburgers and enjoy! If you aren't a big mayonnaise
fan you can use bottled dressings and add as many small
pieces of raw veggies you like. I would omit the eggs and stick
to Italian type dressings.
Technology at the Huron Country Playhouse got
a big boost recently with the donation of $7,000
of computer equipment from the Huron
Country Playhouse Guild.Above left are front -of -

dent Sally Siegner. (photo/submitted)
GRAND BEND — At the peak
of the summer theatre season,
the Huron Country Playhouse
is bustling with activity, pre-
senting eight shows a week to
enthusiastic audiences and
selling hundreds of tickets
each day.
With so much work to do,
nothing could be more wel-
come than the new computer
equipment recently donated by
the Huron Country Playhouse
Guild. With the arrival of the
equipment productivity is at an
all-time high, further improv-
ing an already excellent venue.
"We are very thankful for
this generous donation from
the Guild," says Drayton
Entertainment artistic director
Alex Mustakas. "The Guild
continues to be such tremen-
dous advocates for profession-
al theatre in Huron County,
and with this type of support
we are able to create greater
efficiencies within the adminis-
tration and production ends of
our organization."
The purchase of $7,000 in
computer equipment was
made possible through raffles,
gift shop revenue and other
creative fundraisers initiated
by the Guild. The purchase
included much-needed laptops,
monitors and printers for the
front -of -house, wardrobe,
properties, and production
departments.
"We are so proud to be part
of an organization which
serves the arts community in
such an inspiring way," says
Huron Country Playhouse
Guild president Sally Siegner.
"It is our hope that this equip-
ment will help the Huron
Country Playhouse continue to
grow and entertain its audi-
ence."
Huron Country Playhouse
launched its 1972 inaugural
season in a rented big -top tent
while actors and staff lived and
worked out of the century -old
barn. This year marks the the-
atre's 35th anniversary, with
attendance expected to once
again surpass the 60,000 mark
during the 14 -week season.
"It is through the support and
generosity of our donors,
members and the Guild that
we have reached such an
important milestone in
Canadian theatre, says
Mustakas.
"Not only does their assis-
tance enable us to present the-
atre of the highest artistic stan-
dards, but it keeps this historic
venue alive for new genera-
tions of theatre -goers to expe-
rience."
