Art comes to Hensall in third annual show
HENSALL — Fifty-one artists are represented
through 148 pieces of work at this year's third annual
hensall.by.design art show.
The show kicked off Friday night with an awards
presentation and runs until Friday. The show is open
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with $5 admission. There is
also a tea room and tours through iceculture Friday.
Organizing committee member Linda Firman said
artists from all over Ontario are represented at hen-
sall.by.design. She said she's impressed with the quali-
ty of work for sale and added there is a variety of styles
and the artists are pleased about how their works are
displayed and presented.
Firman said the show's new week-long format gives
an opportunity for artists to display their work for a
longer period of time and gives art enthusiasts more of
a chance to attend the show.
Firman said the weekend went "very well" for hen-
sall.by.design and attendance and sales were strong. In
addition to raising the profile of Hensall, the art show
serves as a fundraiser for the United Church.
Top prizes awarded Friday night were: "Hubbard's
Cove" by Dorchester's Elsie Moser in the `fabric' cate-
gory; "Water's Edge, Lake Huron," by Valda-Christine
Glennie of London for her oil on canvas in the `flat -
work' category; "Vacancy," by Mitch Eckensweiler of
Mildmay for his pencil wire piece in the `Youth' catego-
ry; and "Cod Piece," by Elizabeth Levesque of Zurich in
the `sculpture' category. Vic Jansky of Grand Bend
received honourable mention for his painting,
"Pinery." A people's choice award will also be present-
ed at the end of the week.
Patricia Bowes-Rowlandson of London stands with her oil painting "Midnight Dazzle" at the third annual hen-
sall.by.design art show, running until Friday at the Hensall United Church. Bowes-Rowlandson has five pieces in
the show, including landscapes and paintings of animals. This is her first time at the Hensall show, although she
exhibits throughout Southwestern Ontario. Zurich's Elizabeth Levesque, below, won first prize in the 'sculp-
ture' category for her plastic sculpture,"Cod Piece." She said she finished the piece about two years ago. (pho-
