Jerry Downie tribute

A tree planting and plaque dedication ceremony was
held July 10 afternoon in Exeter's Motz Park to Iles'

Service Boards.The tree, a silver/red maple, is part GNITIpN
of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's
60th anniversary celebrations. South Huron Police FOR

Service Board, Downie was also part of the Citizens on Patrol pro-
gram. Rev. Bob Heywood said a dedication prayer and Downie's widow A Jean
Downie thanked those for coming, adding Jerry would be honoured. Downie died in May 2005. Above

Youth arrested for theft
VANASTRA — On July 3 a citizen alerted Huron
OPP of a suspicious party attempting to steal a vehi-
cle on Quebec Street in Vanastra. Police arrived to
find a 16 -year-old male attempting to steal a 1983
GMC pick up. The youth was arrested. The youth
who has no previous criminal record or any previ-
ous documented negative behaviour with police will
enter the YCJA diversionary program as an appro-
priate resolution to this case. The youth has 14 days
to report to the Stratford Salvation Army to initiate
the program. If the youth fails to complete the nec-
essary components of the program he will be
charged with the offence of theft.

HENSALL - The Hensall
Community Development
Action Committee and the
Hensall Fire Department will
be presenting an "all you can
eat" fish fry on Sun., Aug. 13
from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the
Hensall Arena. Adults $12,
children $5. Only 300 tickets
will be available. Proceeds are
for community improvements.

The Hensall and Community
Horticultural Society will hold
their flower show on Mon., July
24 at Ilensall United Church.
The guest speaker will be
Susan Finch of Sun Shade
Nursery. Susan will speak on
grasses and hostas. Everyone
is welcome at this annual
event.
At Carmel Presbyterian
Church Tracy Whitson-Bahro's
message was "A Listening
Heart". Joyce Pepper was the
organist for the ministry of
song. The offering was
received by Al Hoggarth and
Frank Varley. The service
closed with benediction.
