(photo/Pat Bolen) St. Peter's Lutheran Church family camping weekend July 7-9 By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH CORRESPONDENT ZURICH - Doors Open Huron takes place Sat., July 8 and Sun., July 9 in Zurich from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church; and at Emmanuel United Church which is participating for the 150th anniversary. Committee members will be selling raffle tickets, books, and pins during the two days at the Lutheran church hall. If anyone would like to help for a couple of hours please call Hilda at 236-4149. The kindergarten and Grade one students of St. Boniface School enjoyed going by bus to Story Book Gardens in London last week for their end of year trip. Kenneth and Vicki Westlake (Sarnia) announce the wedding of their son, Scott Westlake to Kelly Melo in London on June 17 with dinner and reception held at Hessenland. Robert and Alma Westlake are happy to announce the arrival of their fourth grandchild, a little girl Robyn Lily, born on June 12 to proud parents Heather and Brent Gingerich of Waterloo. Also a new granddaughter for Mary and O'Derald Gingerich from Southcott Pines in Grand Bend. St. Boniface and St. Peter's Youth group are going to East Park in London on Thurs., July 6. St. Anne's Catholic High School in clinton held its Grade 12 graduation ceremonies in June with several students and families from the Zurich area attending. Congratulations go to Kevin Ducharme, son of Gerard and Rosemary of Zurich who received the St. Boniface Catholic Women's League award for Christian family life. The next men's breakfast will be held at Erb's Country Kitchen this Sat., July 8 at 8:30 a.m. with speaker Father Peter Poel from St. Boniface Parish. For tickets call Jack Baker at 236-4845, cost is $6. A lovely 65th birthday party and supper was held for Bob Heighington in Zurich recently with friends attend- ing from London, Fergus, Wingham and Grand Bend. Bill Watson is a resident at the Exeter Villa and we wish him well and a speedy recovery from his fall recently. A really nice staff party and delicious barbecue supper was held at the home of Mike and Kim Ryckman in Dashwood on Canada Day (Erb's Country Kitchen). The day began with a golf tournament at Bayview while oth- ers went swimming. Several families from the area spent the Canada Day holiday weekend away, camping at various places. There will be a Quilt Show in Bayfield at St. Andrew's United Church on Fri., July 7 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sat., July 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $2 at the door and everyone is welcome. If anyone would like to help out at the Rest Home with the tuck -shop cart for a couple of hours on Tuesday mornings please call Della Gascho from the Auxiliary at 236-4173 or Bridget Groot from the Women's Institute at 236-4743. Both groups are in charge of running this program and could use the help. They would appreciate hearing from you. We enjoyed having all our family over for an outdoor summer get-together recently as we celebrated various occasions at the same time The end of the year staff pool party and pizza supper was held at the home of Cathy and Shawn Rau, RR 2 , Zurich for those from St. Boniface School. Happy 65th birthday wishes go out to Martha Risi. A family celebration was held on Sun., July 2 at the home of her daughter, Judy and Frank Van Aaken in Bayfield. Please keep saving your empty pop cans for the St. Boniface building fund. They can be dropped off any time at the home of Doug Debus, Mike Miller or John Jacobs. The Agriculture Society will be having its meeting this Thurs., July 6 at 8 p.m. at the township hall. All mem- bers are encouraged to attend as the fair is coming up fast from July 21-23 and organizers can use all the help they can get. Anyone wanting to participate in the Zurich Agricultural Variety Talent Show on Friday the 21st at the Complex, which starts at 7:30 p.m. in the air condi- tioned auditorium is to call Heather Klopp as soon as possible at 236-4291 and leave a message. This year's theme is "Remember When". All ages are welcome. Also remember to get your ticket for the elimination draw and dance to "Late Nite Radio" starting at 8 p.m. after the talent show on the ice surface. Tickets are available at the Variety Store, Schilbe Hardware and Erb's Restaurant for $10 each. There are several cash prizes and the last one to stay on the board gets $1000. This also includes a nice lunch sponsored by the Zurich Lions Club and Fair Board. Anyone wanting to play shuffleboard at the complex every Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. is welcome to do so. Please arrive 15 minutes before to get teams set up and ready. Cost is $1.50 to play. St. Peter's Lutheran Church family camping weekend is July 7 to 9 at Paradise Valley Campgrounds near Sarnia. Visitor's are welcome during the day or evening at no charge. For more information call Michelle Depaepe at 519-236- 7979. The Lions Club members had their spouses out for dinner at Erb's Country Kitchen on June 28. They don't meet again until September. Zurich Library Summer Reading Club "Quest for Heroes" will run from July 7 to Aug. 18 on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 10:45 for ages 4-6 years and then from 11 a.m to 12 noon for kids 7 - 12 years. There will be another Blood Donor Clinic at the Zurich Complex on Fri., July 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. Happy anniversary wishes to Herb and Donna Klopp on July 10. Approximately twenty families from Zurich Mennonite Church were camping the last weekend in June at the "Old Homestead" Bayfield. Everyone enjoyed the beau- tiful weather, the pool, soccer game, campfires, Sunday Morning Worship and barbecue. Sun., July 16, Zurich Mennonite Church is hosting an outdoor worship service at the pavillion, (by the ball dia- mond) at 10 a.m. (rain location, ZMC) followed by barbe- cue lunch. Bring your lawn chair. Freewill donation for the barbecue. Everyone welcome. Lots of people were out with their cameras and digital video recorders for the Zurich 150 German Supper, parade, bed races, donkey baseball, dance and church service. The committee would love to see your pictures and movies. They would also like to compile them for a DVD to be enjoyed now and for future reference.
