Sprit A new room at Community Living - South Huron has been dedicated to the late Connie Noels, who was a volunteer with both Community Living and Arc Angels. Gord Noels, left, unveiled the special plaque June 21 and spoke on behalf of his family and his late wife. "Connie loved this place," he said, adding nothing meant more to her than Community Living and her daughter, Erin."She'd be very proud of this room," Gord said. Funds for the room were made possible through donations at an event at the Oakwood Inn in January. There is also an annual walk in September in Connie's memory. With Noels are his sister Mona deRyk, centre, and sister-in-law Linda Norton. (photo/Scott Nixon) VON Walk moves to new date MIDDLESEX — 2006 marks the start of a new century of caring for VON Middlesex - Elgin which turned 100 earli- er this year. A centennial milestone, a new logo and a new date are set for the VON Great Community Walk, held this year Aug. 19. This year the walk will offer five sites across Middlesex County: Ailsa Craig, Dorchester, Longwoods Conservation Area, Poplar Hill Park and Strathroy. Come walk or run the two, five and 10 km routes. The goal this year is to attract 1,000 walkers across Middlesex, London and Elgin. After the walk everyone is welcome back to Poplar Hill Park for music, fun and a free beef barbecue. Once again, the Middlesex Cattleman's Association has donated the beef. Because of their sponsorship and the generosity of other sponsors, the VON guarantees every pledge dollar raised will go directly to service delivery in Middlesex. The Middlesex Cattleman's Association (MCA) is a grass- roots organization that pro- vides leadership to cattlemen from all sectors of the indus- try. Local members include: Ed Fox (North Middlesex), George Taylor (Thames Centre), Bill Lamont (Southwest Middlesex) and George Skinner(Strathroy- Caradoc). It has an increas- ingly important role as a commodity lobby organiza- tion. There is no membership fee, but cattlemen are required to pay a checkoff to the Ontario Cattleman's Association to fund its pro- gram and activities. Thirty- one per cent of the total checkoff dollars paid to the OCA are contributed to beef advertising programs. Dollars are also spent on funding research and devel- opment. Locally the MCA, has an annual beef barbecue fundraiser in Poplar Hill. With the dollars raised at this event they support several charities, including the VON Great Community Walk. For more information on a walk site near you, call 245- 3170. The VON Great Community Walk will be held at five locations across Middlesex County Aug. 19.
