Mike Anstett of Pinewood Avenue is charged with Failing to remain at the scene causing bodily harm after allegedly hitting a male jogger who was running southbound on Richmond Street in Arva Dec. 7 at 8:17 p.m. The jogger, 35 -year-old Carlos Soares of Ilderton was transported by Middlesex London EMS to Victoria Hospital and has not yet fully recovered from his injuries sustained after the Honda Pilot, travelling northbound, collided with him. The driver of the Honda left the scene without brak- ing or assisting Soares. Anstett Jewellers has several locations including branches in St.Marys, Goderich and London. The Exeter location closed in 2004 after 25 years. Death ruled accidental BLUEWATER — The mysterious death of a Kitchener man found south of Bayfield June 25 has been ruled an accident after a post mortem examina- tion. Bob Schneider, 54, died as a result of blunt force to the head in a freak accident. OPP stated Schneider was using a hammock tied to a tree with a rotten trunk. When the trunk broke, the tree struck Schneider in the head. Schneider, the owner of a martial arts academy in Kitchener, was able to make his way into the cottage he was renting, where he died from his injuries. Schneider's death was at first ruled suspicious by OPP, who discovered his body in the cottage at 75368 Bronson Line, south of Bayfield. Portions of Bronson Line were closed as OPP conducted their investiga- tion. Results of an autopsy June 27 showed Schneider's death was accidental. (photo/submitted) Maverick Paintball expanding in Zurich By Pat Bolen TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF VARNA — A proposed expansion to Maverick Paintball in Zurich was given a one-year trial period by Bluewater coun- cil Monday night. Paintball busi- ness owner Brent I-Iillier, who is running paintball games in the old Zurich arena, was seeking approval for a three-year tem- porary use of a property at 25 Main Street in Zurich to expand the business to include an out- door playing field. Huron County planner Craig Metzger told council Hillier is also looking to erect a tempo- rary structure for a player staging area which would be about 50 feet by 100 feet. Metzger said the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority had concerns since much of the area has been identified as a floodplain of the Zurich drain and that it rec- ommended deferring approval of the proposal until more informa- tion was avail- able. Other con- cerns with the expansion were raised by bylaw enforcement officer Lorna VanderPloeg. In a letter to coun- cil, VanderPloeg said she had spoken to those in the paintball industry about possible noise and a proposed 20 foot buffer around the area. VanderPloeg said those famil- iar with paint - ball said at the minimum, a dis- tance of 300 feet would be need- ed for a noise buffer with a best case esti- mate of 1,000 feet. VanderPloeg said her con- tacts could almost guaran- tee there will be complaints from residents and that something like the pro- posed expansion should never be operated near a residential area. VanderPloeg said in her opin- ion the area chosen is poor and it would be more appropri- ate if the land chosen was more isolated and away from residential areas. In a letter to council, Hillier disputed the findings of VanderPloeg's letter, saying he believed she had spoken to owners of a paintball facility in London, who he described as competition and not being impartial. Hillier also stated there are three outdoor paintball parks in residential areas which are in Cambridge, Vaughan and Barrie. He added he is willing to listen to anything and that netting would be preferable to a buffer zone. Responding to another concern raised by VanderPloeg that the facility should have the municipality as a named as an insured party. Hillier said he has $2 million liability and did- n't see why the municipality would need to be named. Clerk -adminis- trator Janisse Zimmerman agreed, saying the municipality wouldn't nor- mally be asked to be put down as a third party on insurance. Following a proposal to give Hillier a six month approval for the facility, Dr. Geoff Hann Accepting New Patients Chiropractor -Acupuncture -Orthotics 105 Main St., Exeter 235-1535 www.DrHann.ca Bluewater Mayor Bill Dowson said he would prefer giving Hillier a year. "It gives him a chance for what he has to do," said Dowson. The motion was changed to a one-year term for the facility and passed.
