Exeter 4-H Club visits
McCully's Hill Farm
By Robin McKnight
EXETER - On Mon.,
June 5 the Exeter Beef-O-
Rama's met at McCully's
Hill Farms. Vice president
Jessica Brock opened the
meeting with secretary
Katie Hern asking the roll
call question: "What are
different things that cattle
are able to eat?"
Dave Pullen talked
to the club mem-
bers about the
importance of pas-
ture rotation and
why it is used. The
club also got to see differ-
ent types of grass growing
in pastures. After viewing
the grasses inside, mem-
bers went outside and
broke off into smaller
groups to find and identify
different species of grass-
es that are suitable and
not suitable for livestock.
The club then took a
wagon ride around the
farm looking at different
types of fencing. After a
few more questions and
answers the group headed
back to the house for a
snack.
A huge thank -you to
Dave, Leah and the
whole Pullen family
for hosting the
meeting and giv-
ing us a tour of
your farm. Also,
thanks to Janelle
and Jillian Clarke and
Jesse Kinsman for provid-
ing snacks afterwards.
The next meeting will be
July 10 at 7 p.m. and is
being hosted by Jessica
and Madison Brock at
their grandfather's farm.

Thailand opening its borders
OTTAWA - Boneless beef and beef products from
Canada may be exported to Thailand now that
terms of an export certificate have been finalized,
announced Minister of Agriculture and Agri -Food
and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board Chuck
Strahl and Minister of International Trade David L.
Emerson.
This ends the ban imposed by the Thailand
Department of Livestock Development in July 2003
after a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy
(BSE) was detected in Canada.
The Canadian beef industry has identified
Thailand as a market for growth and Thai
importers have expressed an interest in Canadian
products.
Since fall 2005, the two sides have been exploring
new business opportunities.
In close collaboration with industry, the
Government of Canada hosted technical exchanges
with Thai officials that paved the way for Canadian
exporters of beef and beef products to take advan-
tage of new market opportunities in Thailand.
This agreement reflects the considerable efforts
by the governments of Canada and Thailand over
the past few months, Strahl added.
After a series of reciprocal visits and favourable
responses to information exchanges, Thailand has
agreed to allow the importation of Canadian beef
and beef products from cattle under 30 months of
age.
