8-2 loss for Fury to Benfica
EXETER — The Exeter Fury
hit the road on Saturday to play
the last placed Benfica
squad and were beaten
handily by the home
team 8-2.
Exeter played a great
first 30 minutes, domi-
nating the play and
making Benfica run in
the heat.
The Fury opened the
scoring after several
foiled attempts.
Tom Phouttharath
received the ball within
the eighteen -yard box and
buried his shot into the corner
of the net. Exeter
maintained the pres-
sure.
Shawn McFalls sent
a pass to Darren
Marziali who kept the
play alive with a well-
placed slide.
Marziali got the ball
to a streaking Pete
Phouttharath who
went in alone on the keeper.
Phouttharath flicked a shot
over the keeper's head and into
the twine to increase the lead to
2-0.

The lead was short-
lived as Benfica found
their game legs and
increased the pressure
on the Fury defense.
Benfica scored three
times in succession just
before the end of the
first half to take the lead
to the sidelines.
The second half was all
Benfica as they tallied
for five more goals with
Exeter failing to muster
much offense at all.
"This was a must -win game
for us if we wanted to
turn our season
around and we just
didn't get it done",
said Fury spokesper-
son McFalls.
"We need to find
answers and hopeful-
ly our next game will
provide them."
They next see action
on Sunday at 7 p.m.
versus Marconi.

Coach's comments: The
team is off to a tremendous
start in league play. The
players are hitting well and
mating some nice defensive
plays. /Ve were in tough in
the tournament, against
some large centres, but the
boys proved they can be
competitive against these
experienced teams. I'm ve
proud of the effort and moti-
vation shown by all of the
players.
